I got the on demand icons back by doing a factory reset, so the problem is 'solved'. But then it was solved three months ago but came back.
I have the impression from posts on this thread that it it maybe something to do with the freesat website remembering something about my box. Just to contribute to the general pool of "things that didn't work", I tried switching to non-freesat mode then back to see if it would forget about me - it didn't. I was also hoping to get a new WAN IP when the licence expired but it didn't change and the problem continued. On my router I have no way of spoofing a MAC address to force a change.
My best wishes to those of you still suffering. I fear that in a couple months I may be joining you again unless humax/freesat sort this.
I'm back sooner than I thought. Fix lasted five days. Fortunately a factory reset got it going again, but I really don't want to have to do this every week.
And we're back with no On-Demand or Showcase, even roll back is blank. Rebooted router, rebooted box and got nowt.
However I can launch all the players via the Freesat app which is a good job as it's saved an earache from the wife.
I'm getting Showcase without an internet connection (which was how it worked at launch). Data for it must be coming via satellite again.
I'm having this problem too on a HDR-1000S, UKSFAA 2.02.07.
I didn't have it in the past (only noticed in past couple of weeks - but I don't watch tv often) and it only happens once the humax is turned on after being in standby. My humax is connected to an Ethernet hub and all other devices on the hub are functioning fine. The only way I can get On Demand to work is to select Settings - Network Connection - connect automatically. At that stage it reconnects to Ethernet and on demand starts working again.
Is there a fix available? In the meantime I find it too frustrating so am using iplayer via my LG tv instead. It's sad that there are over 800 postings on this thread without Humax doing anything. Though leaving the Humax off means I'm watching more on demand tv via the LG telly - Amazon, Netflix and so on. Makes me think whether it's worth keeping the humax and paying for a tv licence!
Ah the misery of the 1000s on freesat... I had a perfectly functioning box until I took the software update last November... Of course I lost my On Demand services immediately (with the odd exception of Channel 4, which plays the first bit of the program, skips the ad break and then starts again from the beginning! Possible to watch an entire prog with strategic FF at the ad breaks!) My added quirk is that when OD goes, so do all my recordings... OD worked sometimes during the last few months - at non-peak times I'd say. But recently nothing at all.
I've been so sure it was a software thing on the freest end and patiently waited for "the fix" to be released, that I ignored the fact my recording disappeared - because they reappear when OD comes back. However after my latest rant at Freesat about how long it's taking them to sort out, the muppet (nice young man) on the phone said "oh you've lost record function too? That's odd. Your hard drive must be broken..." And now that's what Human are saying too... and my box is OF COURSE two months out of warranty. After all that farting about! And endless factory resets (never worked). SO I'm writing on here to say that if your box starts doing any of the above, just take it straight back. Don't be patient. Don't wait. Just get another. Or a refund - and wait for this product to be ready for market!
Sheppy,
Your problem is not typical, first try a factory default, then check your signal levels, Your problem is very rare. Please post again if this does not solve your problem.
It could also be a hard-disk problem, if you are desperate then a reformat might help.
Edit: If registered the warranty is 2 years.
Hi Repassac, thanks for your reply.
I have a weird situation with my box... It's out of warranty and Humax want £139 to look at it. BUT I really don't think its the hardware because as I say my problems began with the 2.02.07 download - after taking it I had intermittent problems accessing On Demand and when those problems occurred I also couldn't access my hard drive so no recordings. However I've stumbled over a temporary fix I think...
Two days ago after posting on here I found a file on a what looks like an old Beta Humax site: http://beta.humaxonline.co.uk/downloads/hdr-1000s
In the hope that I might be "rolling back the driver" I downloaded and installed it - guess what? My box worked flawlessly for the first time in MONTHS. Old recordings reappeared, and we could pause live TV etc as well as watch On Demand on all sources.
Then I left it alone for 24 hours. Came back to it - not working. Back to seeing nothing except the satellite dish (I have "Good" signals on both tuners by the way and have tried multiple factory resets but it never helps).
So I'm guessing while I left it alone Humax or Freesat squirted some something back down the pipe and overwrote my "old" new software. So I reinserted my usb and did it again - it works. But who knows for how long... Is there a way to protect the software on the box and prevent it from constantly connecting? I know that's how they deliver stuff as the chap on the phone at Freesat the other day said to make sure it was always in standby so it could "receive" whatever patch they're STILL working on! All advixe greatfully received....
PS - I checked the system info page after the "rollback" and it says software update Jan 2013 - so when my box is on this it's fine. I've just done a precautionary reformat of the drive whilst using the old software - as I can't access the drive when it's in 2.02.07
We'll see how it is in the morning!
