Sheppy, While I think that they were changes in the latest software to the way on-demand is handled. I think the actual cause of your problem is elsewhere - network or hard disk.

It may well be network related and I would be interested to know if you have any problems with access to recordings with booting with the network cable disconnected.

Hopefully the hard disk format will have restored buffer functions for you. If not there have been several users who have recently reported hard disk problems but these have been more the disk not being detected at all. I presume when you have your problems the system - storage settings seem OK?

Hi Repassac, usually my box does not see the HDD at all when it cannot see OD - in other words when it's running 2.02.07 However when I download the 1.0....something software from Jan 13, it sees OD and its own HDD no problem. It was whilst running the downloaded software that I carried out a reformat - not possible usually because it can't see the disk! So I currently have no recordings...

I've just booted it up and I see its back on 2.02.07 grrrrr. Does it search for software updates continually? Just checked signals - both tuners good. And it CAN now see the HDD and I seem to be able to pause and record. Fab! No OD icons will load up but it currently IS playing Iplayer too.... Wow. Could a reformat have done this?

What did you think might be wrong with the network? And do you mean my own Lan or the wider world?

Yes it checks for new software as part of the boot process.

The reformat seems to have done the trick so possibly it was some disk corruption possibly of just the static buffer file. It may be that that the following is not well handled - if the unit's HD controller indicate a dish present but during the boot process access to the HD fails while trying to build the recordings list.

The icons will return in due course. It you want to try and speed this up then try leaving the unit on BBC 1 HD for a while may help.

My thought of the network was caused by another post who had lock-up problems - his problem was solved after he found a local network connectivity problem.

Which could also explain the loss of OD, given that the building of the recordings list seems to take place before the setting up of On Demand / Showcase.

Which if correct would make it, as you say, a different problem altogether from (most) other reports in this thread. It does seem to make sense. Well spotted, Repassac.

    Hi All,
New to this thread, so sorry im repeating anything already said.
I got the humax hb1000s yesterday and since having it connected to ethernet and dish, i can not access any on demand content.

If i click on iplayer / 4od, etc it just goes to a black screen and not do anything. i have left it for 5-10 mins to see if anything would load and nothing.

I have done the update to the latest firmware and its not solved the problem.

    Any ideas?

I will have to send it back if i can not get it to work as the rewind and on demand was a big factor for me to buy it.

    Appreciate any help.

    Thanks

    Welcome to our Forum

I have just checked iplayer and 4od on my HB 1000S and they appear to be working.

Suggest checking unit is actually connected to interent via settings, network connection.

Does on demand on channels 901/903 work for you?

The problem you describe has been solved for those users who reported it this thread. The original problem was believed to be down to an overloaded freesat server which as compounded by the way freesat specified that on-demand checks were to take place. The principle symptom was getting a message when trying to access on-demand that it was not available and to try in a few minutes.

It could be the previous software version set flags which have not yet been updated. My suggestion is to place the unit on say BBC2 HD for an hour or two. This channel should receive freesat data faster than most.

p.s. Barry types faster than me - teach me to make coffee in the middle of a reply.

    Hi there,

I left it on bbc 1 while i went to work. ive just got back for lunch and still nothing. just a black screen whenever i try anything on demand.

Im on firmware 2.02.09 and the humax box is plugged by ethernet cable into my bt home hub 5.

Is there anything else i can try?

ill leave it on bbc 2HD while i go back to work shortly and see if that helps.

Its very fustrating as im all out of ideas.

    Thanks

Try putting the Humax into standby and then when the disk has stopped spinning turn the Humax off at the mains. Wait a few seconds and turn it on again. If that doesn't help try a different network cable. If that doesn't help, try ringing (not emailing) Humax support to see what ideas they have.

Does channel 901/903 work for you?

If those two do not then the problem is network/dns related.

Did you check the unit has acquired an IP address as Barry suggested?
