    Hi guys, just a quickie,

I need to transfer my recordings to my desktop PC (Win 10).
I'm in touch with Humax, but it takes a little time to get replies - i'm sure they are very busy.
Even so, they arn't explaining something to me very clearly (or I am pig ignorant).
They say that I need to make a new folder, called my IP, and things should kick off.
However, I can't understand where or how to make this particular folder !
Can someone help please ? Wrongly, I put a new folder on my desktop, which obviously dosn't work.

I'm presently 'moving' programs to a usb-3 hdd, but its taking forever.
When I do manage to stream things, I assume it will take longer - or not ?
also, will I be able to stream more than one program at a time ?

    all the best

    Hi,

I've transferred programmes over the net to a Win10 device, still not blisteringly fast but it seemed faster than going to USB

Assuming you have the v1.01.31 update installed you need to go into the network settings on the 4000T

Enable the Samba & FTP servers, this shouldn't really be necessary but I've had problems when these weren't on, the issues may have been something else entirely but just to be sure turn these on as I've never managed a transfer when they weren't on.

Then enable the media server on the 4000T & wait a few minutes.

Turn on your Win10 PC & start a file explorer

Open "This PC" if you can't see an entry named FVP-4000T... under "Network Locations" you may need to power cycle the 4000T, mine seems to need this occasionally, I've found it can be a bit quirky getting the media server to start, hopefully a future update will fix this.

Assuming you can see the 4000T in "This PC", double click it & look in "My Contents" & then in "Recordings" you should see a list of all your available recordings.

Drag & drop the ones you want to a folder on your PC, they should come across as mpeg files & will play in pretty much any media player

If you try using the samba or FTP server to transfer files the recordings are transferred in an encrypted form & will only play on the 4000T.

    Hope that helps

Never tried HD, so I don't know, at a guess I'd say no.

    Thanks Esme,

    A lot clearer than Humax.

I double clicked on 4000T DMS. I don't actually see 'MY Contents' & 'Recordings', but I was sure i got it right - but:
    when I click;
Music; I get a list of all the TV channels (0 bytes in all files).
Video; I get a list of all the Radio channels (0 bytes in all files).
Pictures; I get a few of my pictures, plus a full list of TV channels.
Recorded TV; I get a list of TV channels. They all say “unknown episode”, even on channels I never watch – shopping, porn, kids etc

    I couldn't make a new folder here !

I have taken screenshots if you need them, but I’m sure you know what I mean.

Ooo that sounds weird, pretty sure that's not what you should be seeing, it's definitely not what I see.

What version of the software do you have ?

    Update; 05/08/16

Do I have to use something like PhotoBucket to post images ?

    thanks

Well that's the same version I have, but it does seem to be behaving strangely

I suggest you contact Humax tech support, the email is uksupport@humaxonline.co.uk

Tell them what you're seeing in these folders, I'm thinking there's an issue with your FVP.

    thanks again esme,
As in the o.p, I'm already in touch with Humax, who seem to think that a format will solve everything.
As there are so many anomalies, I personally don't think a re format will fix everything.

2/ It's taking ages to 'move' saved programs to an external hdd, via usb 3.

If I connect a USB lead from Humax to PC, will this make things faster,,,, or allow me to move more than one program at a time ?

3/ Another thing is, that it's caused retention/burning on my LG OLED TV. I bought this expensive TV as; "these don't suffer with retention/screen burn".
At the moment, it's only the "play this episode" box showing up, but if this is showing up now,,,,,, what can I expect in the future ?

Luckily enough, it's still under guarantee !!

I'm now thinking, that I didn't choose the right brand for my purpose - 'trouble free recording tv programs'.

Never tried connecting to a PC, I'd be very surprised if it would work

Moving recordings to USB - the fastest I've managed for a transfer was about the same as the playtime of the programme, this was to a newly formatted fat32 32Gb USB stick, I've had problems trying to transfer to sticks & disk drives that had files on from other systems or weren't fat32 format.

Once you've backed everything off the disk it might be worth reformatting it but I doubt this is going to solve the issues you're seeing on the network, still if you don't try it Humax will keep pushing for it & won't look for another issue until you do.
