@woodbutcher. Thx. I reinstalled the firmware again and it now works perfectly.
@Selector. Perhaps you could try the same and it may solve your problem too.

    Good luck.

I’ll give that a go tomorrow - did you do it with a memory stick as they suggest ? I’ll have to find one !!

Yes with a memory stick. It maybe a good idea to make a note of your planned recordings as they might get wiped during the firmware update, as I didn't have any I don't know if it does. It won't delete the recordings.

I've just installed the firmware from a usb stick, as I'm trying to fix another problem where the box loses the hard drive. The process was very painless, and my planned recordings and existing recordings were unaffected. On demand is still working fine, iPlayer, My5 and YouTube all working ok. I might start another thread about the hard drive troubles though, grrrr.

Well that all sounds very promising - first idiot question of the day though !! How do I get the HDF file to open ? My computer doesn't seem to recognise the file .... do I need to download a specific reader ? Many thanks

You don't need to open the hdf file, Just copy it to the usb stick ( not inside a folder)

It is crucial to follow the instructions on the page where you got the .hdf file, especially that you let the process finish before you turn off the box. I would read 3 times before doing the deed, or it might not be painless after all. You're effectively giving the box a brain transplant, so you want to be sure it is the right file and goes to completion.

Yes, well sleuthed. I'd forgotten what exactly had happened, checked my post from May '23 and now have cleaned the contacts again. The return of the corrosion was inevitable as we have used the box in our motorhome. I've just ordered a cable and socket from Ali Express after a long and frustrating search, the Sata cable is short and non standard. The box is fine now, but I lost a couple of recordings. Hopefully some scary soldering will solve it for good.

Thanks both Woodbutcher and dd500 for the pointers ..... however my HB1100 is not playing ball.
I have the Hdf file on a USB and when I plug it into the back I cannot follow the instructions ... there is no button as described in the Humax instructions on the top or front to press. The only thing that comes up on the screen is a box that asks if I want to select Photos or Videos
    So I am at a loss - humph !!

The link posted earlier was for the HDR1000 and HDR1100. The HB1100 is here: https://uk.humaxdigital.com/support/?product_id=3534&curr_page=sw_release
I'm afraid I can't help re the buttons etc. as I'm not familiar with that box. If the instructions don't accord with the reality of your box I'd suggest asking Humax support.
