Playback freeze;channel missing/scrambled

Thanks again. OK will order new hard drive. It seems straight forward. Does one get a jumper set in the box or is that something I get elsewhere?

You don't normally get a jumper. A local PC repair man will likely give you one if you don't have any old kit around with some jumpers on.

Just an update on this thread.
Got a new hard drive like the one indicated in a previous post. Fitted easily with jumper placed on pins 5 and 6. Sat back smugly and recorded a programme. Watched it later and shock and horror .... 'Channel unavailable or scrambled"!!! Maybe I should change the telly - very unimprssed.
