I think the Humax HDR 1010s is super. However since June 2015 the little green icons have stopped showing (minor issue) and the box has stopped recognising my external HDD (annoying issue). I have carried out all the usual checks. Could all this be due to the recent update? In all other ways the box works perfectly.

Thank you for your interest and quick response.
The file system is NTFS. The drive has worked for many months and I have made no changes. It contains a number of video and music files e.g. .mp3 and .vob.| Thu 9 Jul 2015 13:40:47 #3 | -

A 250GB USB 2.0 portable drive I have fails to work on the front port (it makes a ticking noise indicating lack of power). Adding a separate power source using a cable with a dual connector (the extra is only for power) and it works OK. It does work on the rear port unpowered and on the front ports on a pair of HDR FOX T2's.
Can you try the same drive on the rear usb port of your box.

I suppose to save wasting your time I should have listed the checks I have done.
I have tried a number of different drives, both powered and not, including small pendrives. I have tried FAT32 and NTFS formatted drives. Both front and back USB sockets have been tried. All drives work in other media players and laptops etc.
Thanks again for your time.| Thu 9 Jul 2015 14:47:17 #5 | -

No wifi dongles have ever been used. This unit has wifi built in.

Puzzled....
Just tried a WD portable 1TB passport HDD and that is working fine.
Edit: and a Seagate Slim working as well.
I should ad these are usb 3.0 HDD
Further edit:
This is odd, because a Segate Goflex (usb2.0) also works.

Just tried a couple more drives (all NTFS).
The one that failed to work on the front port was a Medion 250GB USB2.0
The other two I tested worked OK
Sonics 750GB USB 2.0 and WD 500GB USB3.0.
The Medion works fine on all the other kit I have tried.
Small media player, laptop, Asus Transformer Prime Android Tablet, TV, and Blu-ray player. Pretty sure it worked OK originally (I tend to use the Blu-ray player as it natively supports 1080p24 and has a direct HDMI cable to my AV receiver.
Does anyone know what the supported current output of the two ports are ?
EDIT
Toshiba 2TB USB 3.0 also works OK. Most odd
