And why do they design them so they stick out the wrong way (from the earth pin side) which makes it hard if not impossible to use them in double-sided extension gangs without blocking use of the opposite socket?

Ah, Red/White (RCA) outs for audio is what my parents would need.
However that is not part of composite out. My parents use the RCA audio outputs plus HDMI to their TV. I'd split this as two items:
Composite video (RCA) out
Stereo audio (RCA) out
Composite is a term applied to video specifically. Composite means nothing in the context of audio. And hey, you can put one more item on the spec sheet doing it my way round. The two audio out and composite video are invariably together on pvrs. No point in having composite out without the associated audio connections. In any case I presume the box will also have a scart socket, the three outputs are also part of the standard scart socket configuration.
So the probable correct answer is the new box like all the other Humax pvrs will have two sources for stereo analogue audio.

I agree, external power supplies are acceptable for battery powered equipment like cordless phones and laptops but to have them supplying fixed equipment like a PVR is tacky. On the other hand provided the input voltage is 12V it makes this a possible Caravan/Campervan PVR as with some 12V satellite receivers.
However I have to agree regarding power bricks that plug directly into a mains socket obstructing other sockets. Very frustrating to have a 4 Gang extension into which only 3 or at worst 2 items can be plugged.

Having no front display is a deal breaker for me.
Apart from the increased memory, I personally would consider it to be a downgrade from my 3 HDR Fox-T2's!

No win situ for Humax - have a front display, moans and whinges, take it out....
Makes no difference to me as all products behind smoked glass doors

With no display, it would make a good upgrade for someone who has a PVR-9150T.
