They should provide an option to prevent the box going into standby. They do, don't press the off button

Yeah as default it turns off after 3 hours of inactivity, but you can turn that off in the settings menu.

Problem solved then - round the clock full on power expenditure at one's fingertips.

Problem solved then - round the clock full on power expenditure at one's fingertips. And the time shift buffer file getting thrashed 24/7, just to save a few seconds on boot.
I can imagine a certain poster complaining that his hard disk is having problems a month or two after the warranty expires and trying to explain it's not the result of the same area of the hard disk being constantly written 24/7.
Sorry I just don't get this thread, how many of us have PC's that can boot in around 35 seconds from being shut down ?

Sorry I just don't get this thread, how many of us have PC's that can boot in around 35 seconds from being shut down ?Because many coming to the Humax Freetime boxes from other PVRs are puzzled by the long bootup in comparison. I bought my box over a year ago coming from a crappy Segam box It booted up to a picture in about 3 seconds, hence the confusion and dislike by some of the Freetime box's long bootup.
