Well, if your new TV has all those catchup apps, then I too can't see the need for a 4k Firestick. But my 4k Samsung can not handle the HLG version of 4K that the BBC use but my firestick can. But All new 4K TVs should support HLG.

I thought most 4K TVs have the ability to access 4K content via BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime, Netflix etc so what does the 4K fire stick do that the tv can’t? I don’t have a laptop anymore but have several iPads, but again, I can watch the above on the iPads already.

It has the ability to wirelessly stream content from a PC like your high res photos, video files etc. Connect it to a AV receiver to get incredible sound.

I have Apple TV though it’s not 4K but I can wirelessly stream from iPad or MacBook and view iPlayer, Amazon Prime, Netflix, YouTube etc in hd or view photos or anything else that’s on my iPad screen with my current tv using AirPlay. I can’t adjust the sound with the remote doing this but since that’s between the Apple TV and the tv, and doesn’t involve the humax, this is probably not the best place to ask if there is some easy adjustment like switching off Dolby digital. (On the apple tv It doesn’t seem to have any effect switching Dolby digital on or off, I’ve left it on auto). Tv doesn’t have Dolby digital option that I can find.

The Sony Kd65xf9005 has iPlayer and Netflix but not Amazon Prime, can I download the app and install it or is that where I’d need the fire stick if I want prime in 4K?

If it's not on the TV then yes you would need a android device like the 4K firestick.

What distance will you be sitting from the TV ? I sit 4.5m from my 55" OLED. You would need to be further away than that to use a 65". The previous Panasonic was a high end 47"

55" is a major increase in screen area.

I see the TV uses Android, you would have to check if you can sideload apps like Prime if it's not on the list of additional apps. For me the firestick is ideal so I can stream content from my laptop plex media server.

Isn’t 4.5m a bit too far away for a 55’? I’m sure it’ll be fine but you could go closer without seeing pixels or other undesirable detail if you wanted to couldn’t you?
