i actually only purchased my Humax freesat+ box for the YouTube facility, so i am really gutted that only 8 out of 10 videos will play.
i get "playback error" on virtually everything.
it's great when i do find something that plays, though.
i hope this is fixed soon.
does anybody know who i need to complain to?

I would also like to complain as I am fed up of either signing upto something you do not get fully like talk talk 69 channels and only receive 33, then buy my Humax 1000s and then do not get the service of Youtube.

The YouTube function was actually working fine for a few weeks after the flashing "Loading" text problem, then YouTube changed their website and the way the stream videos slightly so I believe it's actually YouTube's fault and Humax now has to update it's firmware to include the changes made by YouTube.

Now when Humax release their next update is anyone's guess but I hope they address this problem in it.

I have contacted Humax on behalf of all of us in this thread by email in which to reply to us in this thread and keep us updated on what is going on, (Hoe this helps and hope we get a reply !

    Dear Humax,

Many members who have purchased a Humax 1000s & 1010s are recently experience serious problems in the playback of videos
on Youtube through their recorders, most are very "Frustrated" and some members have purchased their recorders specifically
for this purpose to access you tube and are greatly disappointed in the service.

I appreciate you pay attention to one thread alone

    http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/youtube-playback-error

We tend to understand this is could be a fault of You tube due to some updating they have done from their end, but we all tend to
understand that it is the responsibility of Humax to provide a Update in which to solve this matter and have videos on
you tube available to us once again.

We appreciate if you answer some of the members questions on the thread above and provide an explanation on what will be done in
which to resolve this problem and when it will be expected to arrive!

    Regards

    Hi felix,

surely this should be sent to youtube?

youtube changed their code and broke the humax app. I'm sure humax will in time be forced to re-write their code to accommodate the youtube changes, but at the end of the day it's a freesat box. I bought my freesat box to watch and record freesat, which it does, anything extra is a bonus and stuff like youtube is easily accessible via pc, android, smart tv, etc. etc. and a multitude of other devices.

A freesat box is a freesat box, and what I've been reading makes as much sense as somebody buying a new car because they smoke a lot and then moaning because the cigarette lighter doesn't fit the new shape cigarettes that the tobacco company now produces after the tobacco company decided to change the design of the cigarette. The car still works as designed, i.e to get someone from A -> B, just as my freesat box still works i.e. watch, record and playback freesat.

Let us know what youtube say, and what their solution would be as it's youtube that have changed their code and broken the humax youtube playback

Damian... Yes it's a freesat box with the main function being to watch and record freesat TV but has also been sold to us with extra functions like On Demand TV which I expect to work properly.

My smartphone has a camera built into it but it's main function is to make and receive phone calls, if the camera stopped working then I would be pretty annoyed because it was sold to me with the knowledge that it has a quality 8mp camera function.

If I wanted a freesat box that just showed freesat TV then I would have purchased a cheap £50 box. I wanted a high end freesat box with lots of extras like HD capability, USB media capability and on demand TV including YouTube as advertised on the side of the box and was willing to pay £280 for the privilege.

    Hi tonegee,

I appreciate the frustration; however humax haven't changed anything, youtube has.
With your smartphone, the camera hasn't stopped working, it isn't broken, but if what you're pointing at has changed then there's a problem and it's not a problem with the smartphone it's what is seen in the viewfinder.
youtube have changed their software and are arrogant enough to expect everybody else to fall into place, just like microsoft wouldn't touch java and then later when they did they wanted to change it to their version of java and expect everybody else to fall in line.
Going back to the car analogy, government builds roads, manufacturers build cars to drive on them, and then government changes width of roads so that cars no longer fit - who's to blame?.

Youtube changed their software and the humax app no longer works, who's to blame?

I doubt very much that youtube gave all the manufacturers and software houses 6 months notice about the changes that they were going to implement and we all know that in time humax will be forced and have to spend time and money changing their software to accommodate youtube's changes.

I'm quite happy to have a pop at humax when they get things wrong, however this time it's youtube that have moved the goalposts, I know it's frustrating, but your annoyance should be towards youtube as they're the only ones to have changed anything and broken it as a result.

It could be argued...has Youtube broken on all devices that access it? I've no idea, but if the answer is no then what is it about the Humax code that is lacking, versus other devices? In that respect Humax have a case to answer.

Regardless we all understand that Youtube is the main Root of all this but if "HUMAX" has any "Respect" for its customers and future customers they should contact Youtube to try and solve the matter on our behalf.
As some members stated it may be upto Humax to provide a new update to be installed into our Humax freesat sets, so in theory Humax has to be involved to try and help solve the problem...

As far as I know no other devises are effected by YouTubes changes. My PC, tablet and smartphone all work fine with YouTube and none of them need constant updating to keep it working.

The ONLY way this will be fixed is for HUMAX to fix their software so that YouTube can function properly.

YouTube may have built the road, but HUMAX is constantly breaking down on it.
