So far I haven't had a problem with the hard drive but I was wondering if it would be a good idea to reformat the hard drive anyway. Would this prevent the problem from happening.

The hard drive automatically formatted itself. I had a hard drive not correctly formatted error message which told me to go to the hard drive setup screen, but is just formatted the hard drive anyway.

I've since formatted it again manually just to make sure seeing as I have already lost ALL of my recordings anyway.

Why do I have the feeling that this is just going to be the start of it. Thought I was buying a top of the range FreeSat recorder but it's looking more like a substandard, released too early with absolutely NO customer support piece of C**p.

That's just me ranting because I'm furious at loosing all of my recordings.

All my recordings have disappeared after applying the .22 beta firmware. No message about formatting but all the recordings are gone. Very annoying...

Try leaving the box on for 10-15 minutes on the recordings list page after a reboot if they still aren't showing.

Looks like im joining the Format Hardrive club too a long with other issues.
Only had this unit for a few days and now I cannot use it any longer.
First of all I had a crash while viewing the EPG, then followed by the Format Hardrive message, picture flicking between pink screen, fuzzy screen & tv picture, then more crashes & no hard drive visible.
Also unable to use on demand.

Sounds like you have a faulty unit, clearly the format HDD/lose all recordings is a known fault, but the rest of your problems sounds like a the box is broken. Return it for an exchange/refund.
