Wrong thread - hence the confusion. There is a known issue with a component on the motherboard on some 1000S boxes.
Humax have a fixed price repair (£26.00) for this specific issue.

Ignore what I said, was only relevant if it was a HB-1000S.
Many thanks for all your help. I had an email back from Humax in response to mine I sent last week and it sounded helpful, offering a fix for £26 and told me to phone customer care to book it in and pay. so I did this but was told that if the problem was anything other than the blown resistors then it would be chargeable. He told me if the HDD made no noise then it was the resistor. He than told me that as I had taken the top off to look for blown components than the £26 offer was no longer valid. I pointed out that I had already told Humax what I had done in my email and they had made the offer but he said I was likely to be charged the full rate...which I read is likely to be up to £130, a non starter. I'm seriously considering buying the basic HB1000s single channel decoder because I have a new Panasonic TV that has Freesat built in ( but strangely doesn't do series links) and I have a few spare HDDs around. I have to say that if there were a good alternative to Humax I would go for it. Many thanks again.
Wouldn't it be good customer relations for Humax to publish which 'resistor' is responsible for this particular fault condition. This would enable a repair to be made by suitably qualified non Humax engineers to out of warrenty boxes. If the fault is indeed a faulty 'resistor', then it is hardly a complex repair.
You're absolutely right especially as I'm in France....but that opens up another can of worms.
