You mean they will be available both as HD and as SD?

I don't think you can play the transcoded file on the Aura from the recordings screen, so you end up playing the original (HD). If you use FTP to copy files to your pc then I think you can copy both, but the HD one will be unplayable.

Will try transcoding. So far even most of the audio files won't play on the computer, perhaps because they somehow got coded as HD video?

    It's a long road...

Not very likely, and you can't transcode audio files on the Aura.
For what it's worth - when I want to save radio recordings to a pc and play them I extract the audio from the .TS file using ffmpeg (freely available). The resulting .MP2 files (all BBC radio) are playable in Winamp and any other audio player I've used. Ffmpeg can also convert to MP3 but this could introduce extra losses and artefacts - although I've never noticed them.

I finally managed to convert a 1-hour HD TV programme and transfer it to the PC and play it via Media Monkey, but the video quality is poor and the conversion took about 20 minutes.

It all seems more trouble than it's worth, but thanks to EEPhil and everyone else who replied.

There are various settings for transcoding that can be accessed via Settings/Record & Share. I don't know what the default values are, but you can fiddle with the bitrate 1,2,3,4 or 5Mbps) and frame rate 25,30,50 or 60Hz). The resolution you can get is 960x540 or 720x575.

That should read 720x576. (I blame failing eyesight, small virtual keyboard on phone and fat fingers!)
