Can't access hard drive on HDR 1800T

The Tuner side of this machine is working OK but I can't access the hard drive. It keeps telling me it needs re-formatting, but I've a lot of films on there I don't want to lose.
Are these repairable?

Any help would be appreciated

The only way to find out the real status of the hard drive is to take it out of the Humax and attach it to a PC and look at the SMART data that the records the status of the hard drive. Two main possibilities, either the drive is end of life and needs replacing or the drive has a fixable file system problem.

Thanks, I'll get my local PC repairer to have a look at it. If I took it to Curry's they'd probably tell me to bin it.
