After turning my TV on before, nearly all my channels for the rest of the night also say no program information.
Do recordings still record fine if the epg doesn't show any programs?

Check the Recordings - Scheduled option to see what is going to record.

Do you have duplicate channels in the 800's ?

If so you have tuned to more than 1 transmitter.

    Manual tuning is the fix.

I have set up an on and off timer, i have set mine to come on at 5.00am and off at 5.15am on BBC 1 HD, would that be fine?

5am works better because of times we get up anyway.

The cached epg is known to be cleared overnight at some unkwown time. You can easily check. Remove the aerial for the first boot so the epg cannot be refreshed, and check if you still have a epg. If not the housekeeping is after your power on/off timer so it needs to be later.

I saw a few minutes ago that this problem has emerged again on several HD channels (maybe others, I didn't check fully), including BBC1 HD. The box has been on since about 1130, so there has been plenty of time to repopulate, as well as being on for the usual 7-7:20am period.

Have been tuned too BBC1 SD since switching on.

Oh well, went to Sainsbury's and when I got back it had repopulated.

A bit baffling though. Maybe it came back because I switched to BBC1 HD before I went out, though that shouldn't really make any difference.

Edit: Now it has lost BBC2 SD from 1715 today onwards.
And moments later it has come back - this is crazy! It is not as if I have signal problems - 85% strength and 100% quality, rock solid.

I agree your signal strength and quality are fine. the other variable is whether the box is tuned to multiplexes from a single transmitter; I don't know for sure how the FVP boxes behave when not correctly tuned but the earlier Humax boxes behave in the way you describe.

Definitely all tuned to Crystal Palace. It is the only transmitter receivable here.

Presumably that refers to services on satellite having problems. Or was it people on that forum who also use the 5000T on DTT?

Anyway, so far so good today.
