...... Has this Humax box destroyed my Hard Drive?

    Very unlikely.
Using the Computer management admin tool select the disk management snap-in. Do you see anything then?

I've put the HD back in the 1000s and just hoping it will fire up one day like others have and if not i will try what you said and thanks for the advice, i've brought an openbox v8s to be getting on with and OMG how good these are. i only have 1 tuner on the openbox so can only record 1 channel at a time so if the Humax ever does work again it will be 2nd to the openbox and if not then i can use the HD on the PC and bin the Humax.

Well after reading all the the latest comments here i checked my 1000s and still no Hard Drive recognized so i UN-paired the app from within the 1000s menu and then turned the box off for 10 mins and rebooted, but still no Hard Drive recognized, So i pulled the Hard Drive from the 1000s and put it in my PC but that does not see the Hard Drive either. Has this Humax box destroyed my Hard Drive?

No your hard drive will be formatted EXT3/4 which is a format a Windows PC can not read. You will need a Linux machine to read it.

There is a couple of drivers available for windows, the most common is EXT2FSD (which has read and write capability). As Repassac says a EXT2/3 volume will appear in Windows Disk Management.

Yes sorry. I hadn't seen Repassac's more complete and more accurate answer before I left my hasty reply. I was simply trying to point out Windows will not recognise EXT3 natively. Thanks

Other than confirming the hard disk is not faulty, it wouldn't help much in the case of a freetime unit, because the recording partition is itself encrypted.

    Thanks for the info guy's.
Great that the drive is ok as its always useful for storing things if nothing else, but i will leave it in the 1000s and just hope that it will work one day soon, I emailed Humax 2 days ago but still no reply.

I'm having no end of trouble with my 1000S and it continually "dropping" the HDD...

I don't use the box too frequently, but when I power it up out of standby most of the time the recordings are unavailable, checking in the settings seems to show that the disk is not detected.

If I unplug it and leave it for about 10-15 minutes I can coax it back into seeing the HDD, although I had to reformat it last time.

So basically, if I want to watch TV I need to carry out a 30 minute process to get it to work!

I was an early adopter so the box is well out of warranty. I've tried a different HDD in the box, it has been no different.

    Not too impressed

You could for a much smaller fee try BT TV - Humax box that will get replaced if it goes tits up - just a suggestion. My 1000s will be 3 years old come March and although it does have a habit of occasionally bluffing me that I have no recordings etc. a diet of no electricity for about 10 minutes is usually enough to show it whose is boss.
