I have a Freeview recorder made by Spinal Tap. The tuners go up to 110%.

Here is a comparison of signal and quality between the 5000T and Aura.
    My Set-up as follows:
Transmitter: Oxford, 15 miles away with direct line of sight.
Aerial: Powered SLx Omni-Directional DigiDome in loft.
Distribution: Labgear Distribution Amplifier (also powers aerial). The Aura and 5000T are on the same feed with a Labgear FBS402 splitter. Due to excessive signal on the 5000T overloading the tuners a variable attenuator is between the splitter and the 5000T.
When I first had the 5000T, after leaving Freesat, and discovered the attenuation issue I produced a table to help fine tune the signal levels. I've updated all the figures today in the attached. The non-attenuated signal strength comparison indicates the Aura is around 3 to 20% less depending on mux.
Channel 55 is a bit of an anomaly but this has always caused issues and I'm not sure if its being picked up from another transmitter.
It would be useful to find out how Humax have changed the tuners, just less sensitive, attenuation built in, or somthing else?

You are assuming that 100% signal strength on the Aura is equivalent to 100% on 5000T, but there is no standard definition of what 100% signal strength means.

I would agree its probably like comparing apples and oranges, and as Mark Twain said "There are Lies, damned lies, and statistics" but that's all I had to go on.

My Aura figures maybe great, or maybe not, who knows? I know my unattenuated 5000T looked great when I first had it but they proved too great at 90%+ and kept closing the tuners off. So far the Aura has been faultless on the signal front which is a positive for me after the pain and frustration of understanding what was wrong with the 5000T.

I was experiencing signal drop-out and could only tune approx 90 channels (varied on each retune) buy my LG TV would get +150 constantly on each retune.

I called for a TV engineer to check the connections and he discovered that the signal was swinging up and down on certain multiplexers with almost zero on some and variable on others. He went up the ladder and checked there and, although it was better, it wasn't perfect. I went for a new antenna and a new down lead to the TV. The original lead was put in when the house was built (early 70's) so could also be suspect.

Taking down the original antenna, the cable was fitted by one of the old screw and clamp connections and there was a lot of "weather damage" to the connection which, no doubt, added to the problem; or more likely WAS the problem.

Anyway, long and short of it was a much smaller antenna (Sandy Heath is about 15 miles away), a new down lead straight into the house by the TV, a 2 way splitter/amplifier with adjustable output.

The aerial now feeds the splitter/amplifier and two leads come out, one to the Humax and one to the TV (avoiding a pass-through from the Humax). The amplifier was adjusted on a meter so as not to overpower the inputs and a signal check on a lot of the channels (100% strength / 100% Quality throughout).

I retuned and . . . . got 157 channels from the Sandy Heath transmitter which, according to the Sandy Heath webpage is more than they transmit!

In summary - now completely happy with the box and channels with no missing ones or infrequent drop-outs but with the exception of not being able to get consistent sound from the TV/Soundbox and Humax/Soundbox. Plus Netflix, but that's not a showstopper as my TV / Firestick has it

Sorry for the long post . . . . thought it may be helpful to others as maybe this box is far more sensitive to signal quality than, for example, my TV.

One major unknown that concerns me about the Aura is whether the Aura phone App will allow the viewing and download of programmes marked ENC in the planner (e.g. most HD programmes).

The promo picture gallery only ever shows the SD channels on the App so I remain hopeful but suspect not.

After sending this box back, I will probably come back to Aura again something next year and take another look then.

To view on a remote mobile device. The recordings have to be converted. Conversion reduces the resolution of HD recordings to 720 x 576.

As the Aura App is not yet in the playstore, vlc on my Samsung galaxy phone will play them .

Re the phone app. Anyone know if you can set recordings with it? And can you do this when not on your local wifi? Telling though that the box has been released but no app. different teams? and more evidence that its been released too early? Finally, has there been firmware updates since the launch?

To all those who own this box if you can help me...

    1. When watching live TV, can you go back to the android home screen by pressing back button?

    2. Can you jump forward by 30s/60s etc when viewing a recording by pressing the right control button (rather than fast-forward button)

    3. Can you control the box using for example a universal remote/lg magic remote using hdmi cec? Utilising the Bluetooth rather than ir.

    4. Can you power on and off your TV using the remote without powering off the unit itself?

    5. Has anyone managed to pair this with the lg magic remote,?

Thanks to all and thanks for comments so far. Shame there are not many reviews yet for this from sites or YouTube.. Very strange.

Does that mean there is a dlna server on the aura?

I have a Samsung QLED TV that uses a smart remote, it controls my TV, soundbar and my current 5000T. Does anyone know if my Samsung smart remote will also work with the AURA?
