Short version - I performed a system reset and the remote is now working properly again.
Long version:
I have been experiencing slow deterioration of function on my HDR-1100S for some time. These have included:
>Satellite signal - only one receiver registering any signal.
>>Only being able to record one program at a time
>>Only being able to watch a small selection of channels when recording
>List of Apps intermittently shorter or full list - it was only iPlayer & YouTube that were always present, sometimes with only 1 other, sometimes a screen full.
>Apps not acknowledging WiFi signal despite success on checking this when they open
>Apps often failing to buffer an episode when starting to play it - despite the WiFi being fine and indeed fast. Worst culprit was Netflix.
>Subtitles getting out of sync with the picture on recordings playback but always perfect on any app.
>Not being able to switch box on either by remote or the on button on the box (had to pull the cable out to fix this on several occasions). This was intermittent.
& the FINAL STRAW:
>Remote no longer responding to up/down, pause, RW/FF, stop, subtitles etc. during playback of an episode/film within any app - especially iPlayer, yet does exit the app and also the other buttons worked to select the episode to play. They also worked on recordings at all times.
After checking thoroughly on this forum and other google searches, the 1100S DOES keep the recorded programmes when doing a reset - but note - some other models do not! I performed the system reset (after listing & noting planned recordings so I could re-set these as well). Why can't they say on screen in the menu whether recordings are deleted or not? Poor design I'd say.
It's too early to tell with some of these faults but I noted the following improvements:
>The remote now responds properly during playback within apps.
>The satellite signal is now acknowledged from both cables/receivers
>>Can record two programmes again
>>Can watch any channel when 1 program is being recorded
>>>(Still limited list of channels when 2 are being recorded)
>So far I have been able to switch the box on and off, seems very similar to remote being ignored during play on apps.
Still to confirm
>List of apps when selecting on Demand from the menu, sometimes only 3 displayed - so far so good but early days
>Subtitle timing - I have also found a setting for this but the fault includes sometimes getting way ahead of the picture e.g. 40 seconds or more, pausing for ages then displaying many again, far too quickly to read - such as 4 or 5 a second. This may or may not now be fixed. As I say, it was always perfect in any app. I suspect this is to do with variable frame rate recording, which gives you issues when editing videos recorded on many phones etc. but I digress.
>Buffer issues on starting play of an episode/film within an app - despite the WiFi being fine and indeed fast. So far so good anyway but only watched a few as yet.
>Apps not acknowledging WiFi signal despite success on checking said signal when they open. This was fairly rare but did happen so difficult to tell when I might expect to notice it again if still present. Obviously, a cable is better than WiFi if you can but good WiFi should be more than sufficient.
Frankly, the issues above (and other stuff like YouTube and iPlayer not working recently and then magically working again) all seem rather amateurish and the lack of anyone being able to contact anyone at Humax supports that image.
I think, next time I buy a FreeSat (or YouView) I'll check for other makes first and I still refuse to go for Sky or BT TV. However, I'm not ruling out an Amazon Fire stick but I'd prefer to be able to record as well.
