I've had a Humax PVR9150T for many years and apart from the lack of HD channels it's been so excellent that I've avoided replacing it with a newer model.
It's the third PVR I bought, the first two brands having been completely useless, so I want to stick with Humax if I can.
The PVR9150T's remote has a "commercial skip" button that enables me to skip forward 30 seconds. I use it not just for commercials but to FF through all manner of drivel and filler material. It's perhaps the PVR9150T's most important feature so far as I'm concerned.
But looking at the PDF manual of the new Humax FVP-5000T, which I'm thinking of buying, I can't see any button for this function on the remote. Can Humax really have dumped such an essential feature?

Hi on the 5000t there isn't a skip forward button.
However, You just press the arrow Right button on the navigating section , of the remote which brings up the fast forward ,pause or fast back.
Just above that is the timeline So long as it is Highlighted just tap the right button again and it will jump forward by the amount you have set up during your initial installation. Ours is set to jump 120 seconds forward.
Also if you tap the left navigation button it will jump back in time by again the pre-set amount of time. My Wife records all the programs she wants o see, and uses this system nearly all the time for the same reasons that you obviously do.
You will also find there is no INFO button, you can get the synopsis to anything on the guide, or a recorded programme by pressing the OK button. You will have all the options come up .However, on the right hand side of the screen you will see the synopsis.
You can then choose what you want to do, or just press the return button that takes you back to what you had up before you started.
I Hope I've been of some help.
Just remember when you record a series it puts the programs in newest to older episode in that order, just like a windows PC list's it's order of updates installed

They have such a feature it just involves an extra keypress or two first.

I was relieved to find it

Press OK, then highlight the 'time' if not already and then left or right to skip forward or backward in your previously selected amounts

I've had the 5000T for a few days now and, while it is slower in operation than the T2 it's replacing, I am quite happy with it so far. It's just about retraining to get used to the new way of doing things. the best feature is having 3 tuners.

Many thanks for the quick and very helpful answers - and for the welcome.

I'll definitely buy a 5000T when I go into the city on Thursday.

Regrettably, it'll have to be the 500GB model as neither John Lewis or Argos are selling the 1TB which I'd sooner have.

But I like to buy from Argos as there's never any fuss about a refund or instant replacement if there's a serious problem and I suppose I'll manage okay being used to a mere 160GBs - albeit for SD programmes.

"My Wife records all the programs she wants to see, and uses this system nearly all the time for the same reasons that you obviously do".

My wife tells me I'm very impatient and she's probably right. When I hear a Dragons' Den pitcher say: "My name's John and I want £100,000 for a ten percent stake in my events organising company", I hit the "skip" button before the voice over from the chap with the big ears immediately announces: "John wants £100,000 for a ten percent stake in his events organising company".

    I mean, really...

It is only an idea, If you get it from Humax Direct, you will get the choice of the 500gb ,1TB, and the 2TB models.
The 2TB models like mine is £299 which is only available through Humax Direct exclusively.( The 2TB 5000t model is the only one that's the same price as the 4000t.
If you order it during the day. It comes with the next day delivery promise for free.
I ordered mine at 11am on the 16th October and it arrived at 2.45 the next day.
We got the 2TB model which gives you 1000 Hrs of SD, or 500 HRS of HD recordings.
I hope your as pleased with yours as we are with ours.
Just one more thing We turned the transparency off on ours. but there is a way to do that if you go into the settings via the Freeview play button(you'll find the settings tab along the top edge of your Freeview Play screen. Good Luck.

Another person reporting its slower than the T2.... I thought it was supposed to have a speed boost!

The speed issue is my number one gripe with my 4000. I can live with the inferior interface if only it was at least as fast as the T2. It just doesn't make sense why the now very latest machine still isnt as quick as the T2

As I've stated before the T2 (which I also owned) is now a different generation from the 5000t.
That includes the fact the 5000t has Double the capacity to record the number of programmes at the same time, Plus the Freeview play side of the machine with the Wi-Fi side of it ,but of course don't forget the footprint of the machine is greatly reduced. Not forgetting the on-board
    storage
Surely it's time to put the T2 to rest? RIP

Yes the T2 is from a different generation....a better one IMHO. I have WiFi on my 1TB T2 via a dongle and all the OnDemand services I can get from my smart TV.

Agreed its a nice small footprint, but the UI is a backward step! Of course with the T2 there is the amazing custom firmware with endless tweakability!

My T2 is still doing sterling service and the ability to create folders so I can move items I want to keep in to an archive folder is wonderful. My 4000 is cluttered with items I want to keep as they have to stay in with all the other recordings.

Good job we are all different

So, please tell me how you can scroll back to yesterday to watch something that you missed on the Sony channel (32)
or any other channel that's not covered by the iPlayer or itv hub.
because as far as I'm aware you can't.
Still as you said each to their own.

The point is two HDR-FOX-T2's are superior to a single FVP unit in all but On Demand services. As to capacity it's a simple DIY job to drop in a 2TB drive in a HDR-FOX-T2. Especially in sharing content between them.

These days it's very simple to get on demand services from other kit most of us already own. Smartphone or tablet paired with a chrome cast, SmartTV, Fire TV box or stick are some examples.

Not sure what you mean about Sony TV as they do not have a catch up service like most other non psb broadcasters. You forgot that Channel 4, Channel 5 and STV also have On Demand catch up.
