My FVP5000-T lost all channels except for HD several times. I didn't have any uncommanded switch-ons though. I returned it to HUMAX and they sent me a new one which has been fine so far. You may have a faulty unit.

Thanks Hugh ... with the self-starts and this new issue perhaps it is a dud.

How long have you had the unit and who did you buy it from? Mine came from HUMAX Direct and it took 2 phone calls and 2 e-mails to arrange a replacement. It would probably have been quicker if I had bought it through Amazon.

Arrived twn days ago from Humax Direct. Its the 2tb.

Mine's the 1Tb version but I doubt that is relevant! I went through Humax Support but I've been told it would have been better to go back to Humax Direct.

I'm going to give it a few more days ..... and if it does go back it may be for a refund.

Just another "data point" ... it appers that the output uhf signal is internittently breaking. I do not know if this is coincidental with some function it is performing. The 5000t feeds the input of a Youview box which since adding the new 5000t box has had input signal drops every hour or two for just a few seconds.

As this uses a bit more power probably a bit greener to simply fit a tv splitter before the box so you don't need to use passthrough.
You may have enough signal to use a 4 way splitter and give 5000T, Youview and TV seperate feeds.

Thanks Graham,
I think you mean power saving off rather than on?
Power saving was always off to enable loop through and I've been a bit more pragmatic than that to double check the problem. I have "promoted" the Youview box to feed the 5000t (from the other way around) so that the Youview box cannot have the signal cut. There hasn't been a cut signal since. To be clear the cut signal only use to last for a few seconds but for a few days I thought (wrongly) that perhaps the youview box was overheating or something, but I realised it only started once I had added the 5000t in the line feeding the Youview box. The 5000t also doesn't always respond to the RC every time. And the not being able to tell whether it is on or off if it is recording is a bind simply because you hit the power button and patiently wait, and the lights give no clue, so then you hit the power again and eventually you get a picture. Because of power on lag this process with the self power on issue mkes it a bit of an annoyance. The timer on each day you suggested also seems to make other reset to default adjustments, like reducing the volume down to it's preferred default from my preference.
Yesterday evening a large number of options were greyed out in settings eg options such as returne. This morning again all non-HD channels have dissapeared, so I have cancelled the timer just in case and smart retuned to get all channels back. I think it'll be returned and I'll revisit the box after a few more months.
It's a shame because I sort of like the box, and I'll think about it again tommorow to see whether the removal of the timer has improved it sufficiently. I know some people will always have a dud box, but some of this stuff feels like a lack of beta testing.

The power timer has a volume setting. Simply set your default volume level. It's normal for any settings that can effect a recording in progress or about to start to be not available. They will come back after recording is finished. This applies to all Humax pvrs.
I have seen just the HD channels shown in the epg just once before, late last week. It apppears to be a random glitch that engages the HD channel genre settings. You can't go down below 101 while looking at the epg. In this case returning box to sby and rebooting restored normal service. I didn't need to retune.
However been away for the weekend and have just booted my box to test out subtitles for Martin. Epg is restricted to 101 to 204. Does not respond to 001 or just 1.
Interestingly if you scroll up one channel at a time it does 204 105 104 103 102 101 204. The reverse also goes 204 to 101 on pressing down.
Genre search also only finds HD channel content.
Don't want to do the reboot at the moment as playing back Tipping Point.
Senior Moment - Yes Power Saving in sby has to be off to power the rf loop amp.
