I currently have a Foxsat HDR, but with the changes to BBC iPlayer (etc) I am going to change out to a more modern device.
Does anyone know if on the more modern Freesat devices is -
    a) its possible to copy recordings to an external drive (or)
    b) record direct to and external drive.

With my old Foxsat I could copy recordings to an external drive and then take them with us to watch later when we are away in our motorhome.
    Many thanks
    Peter

You cannot copy recordings to an external drive on any of the latest 2nd Generation Humax (Freetime) boxes. That capability is only available on the Humax Freeview+/Freeview-Play units. Note the latter requires you have Windows 10.

I would add the custom firmware add on to your Foxsat-HDR and keep it going as long as possible.

You can add all the catch up services using an extra box like the NOW TV box for very little cost.

    https://blusas.co.uk/mho.php?loc=https://www.amazon.co.uk/NOW-TV-Month-Movies-Pass/dp/B013SGAU8E/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&tag=blusas008-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1472158610&sr=1-5&keywords=now+tv

Note - After the free Sky movies pass expires, the UK free catch up services will still work.

There is incidentally many twin tuner generic fta satellite receivers you can freely copy recordings and watch elsewhere (including HD). The restriction is purely down to the Freesat spec that Humax boxes have to meet to be certified.

    Which custom software is that?
