Not sure why you ask, this is just same pattern as before, scheduled recording fails until I switch on, so I did that to get the back-to-back function tested. Can't quote version off-hand but sure it's the latest.

Because only likely explanation is two boxes running different software versions. Menu - System - Diagnostics

At 20:04 in high power standby but not recording, which I guess stopped at the end of the relevant programmes.

High power sby - do you mean you have turned off low power sby. If so why ?

No, sorry if that's wrong term, I mean it's in standby but the display is lit, time showing, as it does when preparing to start recording (but in this case is past set time and failing to record).

So I switched on and yet again that starts the recordings, which I stopped so as to get into Diagnostics.

    Version is 1.00.21.

I'm sorry, I've had enough for today, I'll be back tomorrow.

This is getting stranger and stranger, correct term is pre recording sby. 1.00.21 is latest, you may want to consider adding the custom firmware which greatly helps to see what's going on - see my laptop screen grabs. We are using same channels and getting very different outcomes.

Only thing switching on will do is power the lnb from tuner 1 rather than tuner 2. Looking more and more likely lnb is shot.

Time to consider an an alternative to ladders. A dish does not have to be mounted high up, mine is 6ft off the ground. Can you post the general alignment of your home, front, left side, right side and rear compass wide. You may have a location you can mount a Sky dish you can get at easily. Don't panic you may even be able to ground mount one in your back garden. With a bit of advice it's not that hard. Your are looking for a location withe open sky roughly South/South East. When you look at a sky dish they look to be pointing near horizontal (they aren't, the offset design means they look upwards pretty much the same slope as the average roof).

Thanks but there's a pitched-roofed two story building to the south, broadside-on, just a few yards away, I don't believe a dish much lower than the present position would get a signal.

I will try to find a neighbour with a ladder I could borrow. I've looked at hiring one but, with delivery, that would probably cost more than getting a pro to do it!

I think you may be surprised. You can get the exact elevation for any location

    http://www.dishpointer.com/

Enter your postcode, select 28.2E and zoom into the Google earth picture and drag the location your property, don't forget you may get a location as I do on Eastwards facing wall. Make a simple inclinometer marking a piece of card with the elevation using a protractor and a button on a thread as a plumb line to get the card edge vertical. Glue or tape a kitchen roll tube along the elevation line. Stand at the front of your house or in a bedroom, look through the tube in the direction indicated, if you can see the sky a dish should be fine.

Photo of my dish on a NE facing wall. Try ground level in your back garden.

Blimey Graham, I think that's the lowest sighted dish on a property I've ever seen. I would end up knocking myself out on that.

P.S. good to see you're recycling your run off water.
