The remote receiver and all the front panel buttons are located on the clock board so pass all their information through the data cable, all the bits on yours that don't work. However as the goal posts have moved my theory is looking less likely and with your comments in your last post I would suggest you don't bother.

So I need to just buy a new unit then? Oh God... oh for those days of analogue and four channels
I bought Humax because I thought it was a good brand. Have to say I am not impressed.

Apologises been a bit busy with other stuff.
I still think it might be worth having a shot at loading a default file (this forces unit to reset to factory settings)
If your PC definitely has the socket you posted a link to then all you will need is a cable, the software update application I linked to earlier, and the file.
Cable will cost a few pounds from online stores such as:

Unless any of our other experienced members has an input.

So I don't do the unscrewing business with the cable after all?
Am looking into geting a null modem cable.

We can only suggest possible solutions to your problem born out of years of experience with the products, and dealings with support. No one can give an absolute guarantee that any of the suggested fixes will work.
Humax is a good brand, the market leader in many respects, but as with any piece of complex electronic equipment can fail.

Yes, sure, I understand that. Thanks for your help. So I guess it is worth my getting a null modem cable.
What do you think of the other suggested solution (opening up case and checking cables)?

For a few pounds outlay I would get the cable.
As for opening the unit, if you do not feel confident enough, then no. Should you feel you want to attempt that, then please remember to disconnect from the mains supply before you do anything.

What do you think of the other suggested solution (opening up case and checking cables)?Information you gave in your first post that led me to believe data transfer might be the problem turned out, from a later post, to be a red herring so I don't think my suggestion is relevant.

Thanks. Will get the cable.
Do I need a cable with one male and one female end, or something else?
| Thu 19 Jul 2012 12:38:27 #19 | -
female to female, just like the one I linked to earlier.
