wizard, if it was anything to do with the last upgrade you would see a lot of posts here.

Suggest you check the F-connectors are well fitted on the cables and look for signs of water ingression in the cables (both ends).

The recent upgrade had nothing to do with the tuners or the satellite side of things, so seems very unlikely to be the issue. It certainly made no difference at all to my reception. It's solely about improved IP delivered content.

    As Repassac says

Possible water ingress in coax cabling

    Loose screw on F connectors

Whisker of screen touching core conductor.

Tree growth impinging on line of sight to 28.2E (Note the foliage doesn't have to be exactly in the way, if it's close water transpiration can affect reception)

    Dish moved slightly

    LNB on it's way out.

On one of the channels that is an issue on the Humax box, how does the indicated signal strength and quality compare with the one that is stable ?

That most definetely is not a Freesat box, it's a generic FTA box. Never seen a generic box that does not have a mode you can see the signal strength and quality on. Without this it would be near impossible to align a dish.

Freesat boxes have the full epg, guessing this one has just now/next programme info at best,

At a guess the dish alignment is so marginal a slight difference in tuner sensitivity is working on one box and not the other.

Without the above info it,s hard to help. A quick look at the manual shows the box has manual tune, you need the transponder details to check the reception. Without knowing which BBC 1 region you have tuned it's not possible to identify the parameters you need. You may be looking at a totally different region your postcode gives you on the Freesat box.

All the BBC 1 SD regions are on the epg, have you looked at all of them ?

Do any of the following work on the Humax box ?

    950 BBC 1 London 10773 H
    951 BBC 1 CI 10773 H
    952 BBC 1 E Mids 10788 V
    953 BBC 1 East (E) 10788 V
    954 BBC 1 East (W) 10773 H
    955 BBC 1 N West 10802 H
    956 BBC 1 NE & C 10802 H
    957 BBC 1 NI 10817 V
    958 BBC 1 Oxford 10817 V
    959 BBC 1 S East 10802 H
    960 BBC 1 Scotland 10802 H
    961 BBC 1 South 10817 V
    962 BBC 1 S West 10817 V
    963 BBC 1 W Mids 10788 V
    964 BBC 1 Wales 10788 V
    965 BBC 1 West 10773 H
    966 BBC 1 Yorks 10802 H
    967 BBC 1 EYrks&L 10788 V

My money is still on the dish or lnb or cabling.

    @wizard,
I agree it's not the update to your Humax box both my boxes are Humax but the old one does not get updates as it's too old. The last time it was updated was 2012. The new box was updated as soon as I got it a couple of weeks ago. The both have the same problem when in the living room but neither has it in the conservatory.

It looks like I was wrong about the Inverter. I put flooring in my loft yesterday and turned the Inverter off. Since then we have had no video/audio dropout. I did work my way through most of the transponder strength/quality readings and will try to find time to create a pdf to upload today then I will take your advice in fine tuning the dish/LNB's.

On satellite you get all the BBC1 SD regions. The postcode you enter when setting up a Freesat box puts your local region at 101. You can move any of the regions to 101 using customised channels.

The other box simply adds channels in the order you scan them in. You should have all the BBC regions, which one you are watching is a matter of luck or by looking at the station SID you can tell which it is or by checking what local news you get.
