What is your quality reading ?. Which box is it ?. If Satellite tune to one of the affected channels and use Menu/System/Diagnostics to find the quality. Could be a number of reasons (water in the dish coax cables for instance, lnb failure, local source of interference etc)

Thanks for response, you are correct
the signal strengh is high (85%+) but the quality is low <40%All the standard terrestrial stations are fine, it is just dance, kids and other genres no-one really watches - but my children like kids tv
so, no water has got near the TV and no other devices have been introduced, from what you say it could be an lnb failure
what does this mean and how do i resolve?thanks

Confused, A lnb is required for satellite reception, yet you mention terestrial stations. If you post which Humax pvr you are referring to it would greatly help in sorting out your problem.

thanks for persevering with this
i have a Humax Foxsat 320GB HD Freesat Digital TV Recorder, couple of years old
there are 2 lnb cables running from the dish
BBC 1-4, ITV 1-4 Ch4 (not HD), E4 etc are all showing strength 85% quality 80% (approx)
The kids, music, Ch4 HD are all showing strength 80% quality 30% (approx)
not sure why the quality is low on only these channels but this is the problem

It most likely down to a dish alignment issue.
Download either the Excel or HTM version of the files shown here.

This shows all the Freesat epg channels, the transponder they use (its frequency and polarisation Horizontal/Vertical) and the individual satellite. Tune to one channel in turn from each transponder and look at the signal readings. You are looking for a common link. In your case it's most likely to be that all the problem channels are on Eurobird 1 at 28.5E rather than one of the Astra 2 satellites at 28.2E. You may well also find that horizontal transponders are worse than vertical ones or vice versa. If so the dish azimuth alignment may need a tiny nudge more easterly and the lnb skew (twist) needs tweaking.
CH4-HD in particular has proved awkward for those with dishes set up to favour 28.2E over 28.5E. See this link

Good luck
