Am changing to a new humax fvp5000 and would like to know if I can watch stored recordings on my old box just using the hdmi lead as the aerial will now be servicing the new recorder. Alternatively, is it possible to transfer them from the old box to the new?
    Thanks.

As long as you have two HDMI sockets, you can use both boxes and the old one should play OK with no aerial.

The only thing you might notice is the clock drifting out of sync a bit as no aerial prevents it being updated.

Edit: If you have one, you could connect a spare loop though coax cable from the 5000T's aerial out to the 9xxx's aerial in and another from the 9xxx's aerial out to the TV and you could then still have the 9xxx as a secondary recorder. (Snap - GLT said the same!)

The 5000T has an aerial loop out socket that you can use to connect an aerial to the old box. If it's a new one the cable is included.

You haven't said what model the old box is? On any of the 9xxx series boxes you can transfer recordings by opening the old recorder, extracting the hard drive, connecting it to a PC (windows or Linux) and use software called humaxrw to transfer them to the PC. Each recording will have several files but the only you need is the .ts file. You can upload these to the Download folder on the FVP and play them from there or copy them to a USB drive and plug that into the FVP.

Thanks. Its a bit youview made by humax. Sounds a bit fiddly. What is a fvp? Seems silly to pull it to bits and use a usb stick when I can just use the hdmi lead as previously suggested and which works well. Thanks anyway

You will need to change the code set used by the 5000T remote to other than 1. The Youview box remote is locked to 1. If you don't both remotes will control both boxes.

Just a short way of referring to an FVP4000T or FVP5000T.

In which case you would have done better to post in either the FVP or Youview sections of the forum rather than the section dedicated to the older 9xxx series machines and saved me wasting my time.
