    I rather think that the USB error was indeed that.
    Make sure it is freshly soft formatted with FAT32 and the name is exact.

    No I don't think you are a bit neurotic and with the frequency this is happening, it can't of been overlooked.

    I might be a bit cyclical but I suspect a problem is not acknowledged until a solution is found.

    Hi
    I have just had another email exchange with Freesat. Telling them that I have formed the opinion that there may be epidemic recording problems with HDR-1000s/1010s machines where the machine fails to recognise the SATA Hard Drive and asked specifically for a reply and received the following statement, I quote;
    " In this case, the issue you are experiencing is a fault that Humax are aware of and they are and they currently looking in to resolving resolving the issue for anyone affected".

    Nice of them to tell us

    I have the same issue with my 1010s and looking through the comments now feel that Human are unlikely to resolve this. As I have a second machine in the lounge I am just waiting for that to fail as well. Would anyone recommend another make of machine that has more reliability asI have lost faith in this make and would gladly purchase something else now.

    Hi
    Had another email this time from Humax who contradict the message from Freesat;
    I quote;
    "We do not have any sort of known issue with our units and this fault so unsure why Freesat had gave you that false information"
    You pays your money and you takes you choice!
    They have also said they can not help me as I have not registered the guarantee and have opened the box which is as I expected and was aware of befor hand. I didn't register the guarantee as I had great confidence in Humax and also my statutory rights as a consumer unfortunatlely that confidence was grossly misplaced.

    BrianC' as for your question I too have been looking for a machine other than Humax for Freesat but they are few on the ground. Which is probably why they take such an inflexible upper-handed attitude

    Whether you want to believe me or not your choice but....

    I can assure users that the people at Humax (the engineers) and freesat who need to be aware of this issue are.

    I personally have no doubt they are fully aware I have worked in the Audio Visual Electronics field all my life (I am now 63) and worked for major manufacturers such as ITT and Mitsubishi Electric as well as major retailers such as Dixons and Currys and others so I know the score.

    When I contacted Humax support about the hardware issue (same symtoms) ON HDR 1000S over the summer, I did ask if there is any other customer who have the same issue.
    I was told there is no known issue which caused the problem.

    It is put down as hardware fault and need repair.
    The quote is £160 which does not make much sense.

    Told the Humax support that I am quite disappointed with the reliability - my expectation is at least 3 years and it failed 1 year and 10 months.

    To be honest, I do not have much faith in Humax any more but I did bought a new HDR 1100S at the end.
    The main reason is because my wife is familiar with the Humax UI and I did check out other made before I bought the first Humax - their UI are not as good as Humax.

    My personal opinion is that I am sure Humax are aware.
    But the problem is, as can be seen from post #68, good Freesat boxes are so thin on the ground it's to Humax's advantage to allow the situation to continue bacause as long as these machines continue to fall over out of warranty, the replacement boxes being bought are also Humax, or they get the repair charge. So it's good for business. I must emphasise this is only an opinion I have formed and I am not stating it as fact.

    If Humax are not aware of this problem perhaps people affected should do as I have done and make them aware by email so they can take corrective action.
