    it does say 1080i but it is greyed out anyway so i would not be able to alter it. I suppose this is because it is not recognizing the hdmi cable connected

    If greyed out the box was probably recording. Out of interest try 720P as well.

    no not recording just greyed out when i try going on to resolution it just skips by it

    thanks for you help I think the best thing I can do is wait until Christmas when i get a new tv and hope i dont get the same problems. although saying that i should not have to mess about. with it like i have had so it thumbs down for humus for me

    As you have tried 2, Humus, I would say it's your TV setup. IMHO it's either the cable or the TV's HDMI connectors. Is the TV HD ready. Have you tried another HDMI port.

    The poster said... "either the cable" ...and the link you posted concludes with "it was the HDMI cable". So I'm confused by your post.
