it does say 1080i but it is greyed out anyway so i would not be able to alter it. I suppose this is because it is not recognizing the hdmi cable connected

no not recording just greyed out when i try going on to resolution it just skips by it

thanks for you help I think the best thing I can do is wait until Christmas when i get a new tv and hope i dont get the same problems. although saying that i should not have to mess about. with it like i have had so it thumbs down for humus for meAs you have tried 2, Humus, I would say it's your TV setup. IMHO it's either the cable or the TV's HDMI connectors. Is the TV HD ready. Have you tried another HDMI port.
