I beg your pardon but my 1000S does indeed have a CI slot. It's on the right of the box?
Afaik it's just a hole, the case will be used for different models.
I can't imagine what you would use it for.
I know that the slot on a Foxsat-hdr works. In the early days a dragon cam worked with a sky smart card, though you had to periodically refresh in a working sky box.
The Foxsat-hdr can be used with a motorised dish (no idea if you can use a hdr1000S, but I doubt it).

Conditional interface slot, it's designed to hold a cam (conditional access module) this enables paid for encrypted service viewing using a smart card. A Sky box has a built in cam purely designed for a Sky smart card.
Generic free to air advanced boxes have a CI slot you can use a cam in for paid for services from satellites you have access to. Usually via a motorised dish.

Thanks Graham I thought I was going mad.
The interface is present inside, whether it's active in any shape or form is beyond me but I seem to remember something about possible usage for payTV in the early sales reviews but -anyway I'm waffling

I guess in the unlikely event it ever gets a future use it will require a specific cam and firmware support. Netflix may be (though that seems unlikely for IP paid for content)?
The freeview+ boxes afaik do have a use for paid content (not that I have ever used it).

Well so much for looking at the 1000S, the few outlets that have it are asking silly money, Amazon want £270 for the 500GB yet only £249 for the 1TB!! Might have to look at another brand.

Might have to look at another brand. If you want Freesat+ freetime and the 4 main free VOD services. The only current choice for a proper pvr is the Humax boxes.
