    Hello,

Just installed by new Humax Aura - reviews say the box is "whisper quiet".

However - I can for sure hear what sounds like the hard drive (even when not recording). It's a feint spinning with soft 'clicking' sound.
The sound is not possible to hear with TV on, but when my living room is totally quiet I can hear the feint noise of the Aura.

Is this normal for the Aura - or is is truly whipser quiet ?

    Many thanks...

In my opinion the aura is quieter than a whisper, but is just audible when the ear is placed next to the underside of the box.

Thank you Brian and Graham. Appreciated.

I can certainly hear the feint whirr from my sofa (2m away) when the room is quiet, so will exchange and see if it's just this unit.

BTW, I have the 2TB version - not sure if that means a 'heavier' HDD and therefore more noise.

    Cheers.

You would also be able to hear someone whispering from 2m away, therefore your aura IS whisper quiet.

No complaints from SWMBO about the Aura -- and she can hear a mouse fart in Peterborough

Perhaps age has its merits after all. I can't hear anything at all from our Aura. Maybe I could if I lay on the floor with my ear next to it but hey that's taking things a bit far.

My Aura is also 2TB and is not whisper quiet. When off, it's either completely silent, or you can hear the disc spinning about 10db more than background.

I have a Humax Fox T2 which is a lot quieter.

What I can't work out is why sometimes when it's off it's silent, and why sometimes it's off you can hear the spinning for hours (it's not recording). It's sounds a bit like when the heating is off but the pump is running!

It's just a bit pants to be sold on a whisper quiet feature which does not exist (for me)...

It may also depend on what kind of surface the Aura is on.
My STB's sit on 5mm ply supported by shelf pins. I have two shelves inserted, one for the surround sound, the other carries the Aura, with the media centre PC and 2nd Freeview box on the floor of the cabinet. The most I hear, at my advanced age, is the fan noise from time to time, let alone my tinnitus whistling...!
