I've been having a similar experience with my 4000T which was perfect until Christmas.

Then from January I'm now getting frequent gaps in the EPG.

Eg I can be watching a classic Corrie recording and I can see all the future timers on the left hand of the recording screen. Finish an episode and go back to the list of recordings to delete it, and some of the future timers have now gone. Go to the EPG and it's "no information available".

So the info is there when the box switches in but somehow gets wiped? Changing channel briefly to ITV3 then back to BBC1HD (my box is usually tuned to a HD channel) will fix it.

Something definitely has changed since Christmas - I had no problems before.

Which transmitter are you receiving from?

Idle (Bradford). Have already tried starting an auto tune to wipe all stored channels, then manually tuned to the 6 multiplexes to ensure not picking up multiple transmitters.

This didn't help - same patchy EPG.

It does seem to be a problem affecting a number of people with FVP 4000T/5000T boxes but for others it is working correctly. We need to try and find a common factor. Could anybody else who is suffering with this problem tell us which transmitter they receive from please?

I’m on the Nottingham repeater transmitter, I have a PRV 9300t, a 4000t and a 5000t and they are all affected.

Good luck to anyone trying to explain whats going on to the BBC transmitter complaints system.
It simply reports that there are no problems with the transmitter.

The BBC website says "Please use our BBC Reception Advice website where you will find a Problem Assistant tool that will show any faults at your local transmitter, latest engineering news and offer further help and support. You should be able to solve most problems using this tool, but if not, it will also offer you a way to contact us." So there should be a way to make a text reply?

Thats what I’m talking about. Its an automated system that inly tells you if a particular transmitter is transmitting or not. I already know whether it is transmitting or not because my tellly is working! There is nowhere to describe that the EPG is useless

I did a complete reset and retune of my 4000T last night, I've still got large gaps in the EPG this morning, Its roughly the same on the 5000T which I didn't reset yesterday although the gaps in the two are not the same. I do seem to get less gaps in the HD area of the EPGs but that's only a few channels and I don't want to record in HD. I really don't know where to go with this now. Does anyone know of any alternative reliable Freeview recorders?

The description of gaps in the displayed EPG does seem very similar to what happened to my old PVR, a Topfield 5800. That model had a fixed size internal EPG table with space for 14,000 entries but eventually that was insufficient and gaps started to appear in the EPG displayed on the TV.

Do the 4000T and 5000T have a fixed size table for EPG information which is now too small to contain the whole programme guide?

Based on an experiment done today I think they may have.

Out of habit after retuning my 5000T I always go through and delete the channels I know I will not watch. This leaves only 50 to 55 and I have never seen large gaps in the EPG.

Today I retuned to get all 178 available channels. After only a few minutes massive gaps appeared in the EPG and I would agree with the original poster that it would be very difficult to set timers or to be honest even find out what is on later in the day.

After removing 124 channels to leave only the 54 I wanted, the EPG was completely restored to it's gapless state.

Can any other users of the Humax 4000/5000 PVRs confirm my observations that gaps in the EPG occur only with a large number of channels? It didn't take me long to do, probably only 30 minutes.
