I have been talking to Humax today and the upshot is apart from the remote controlling your tv via IR, everything else is bluetooth. So if you want to incorporate a universal remote you get one that does IR and Bluetooth. Harmony does one but they are very expensive. Nearly the price of the Aura. So I won't be bothering

If you already have one of their upper range remotes then you can add their Hub to give Bluetooth control etc. But check if the remote you have is one of those that works with the Hub.

    Found a couple more bugs.

I’ve set the resolution to 1080p50 under ‘channel & broadcasting’ to allow my TV to do the upscaling to 4K for freeview content (the TV does a better job at upscaling).

If I then fire up Emby which is set to ‘enable refresh rate switching’ and ‘match video resolution’. Emby correctly sets the res and refresh to the content (say 4K), but when you exit Emby, the resolution is still set at 4K set by Emby.

If I dive into the Freeviewplay app, freeview doesn’t revert back to 1080p50 until I jump back into the ‘channel & broadcasting’ menu. At that point it remembers that I had set to 1080p50 originally. A real pain.

The other bug relates to the HDMI handshake. If I turn on my Marantz before I power up the Aura, I get audio with no picture. If I power up Aura first, followed by the Marantz, things are fine.

Maybe we should catalogue all these bugs and help Humax out!

I do like the product but they have a fair few bugs to work through..

Apropos nothing. But over at avforums someone has posted that they spoke to humax today and Netflix won’t be happening AT ALL.

If Netflix isn't coming then I think that would be a big mistake so will take their comment with a pinch of salt for now...

That was my comment on AV.

I called them earlier, the support said it was to do with prime and netflix, and when I asked will it ever come to the box, he just I really cant see it based on what has happened so far.

So I suppose its just a wait and see type scenario.

I'll wait to see what happens for a few days and if no change then it's going back to Amazon and I'll keep my Youview DTR4000 box.

    Just bought a Dish with 2 wideband & 4 normal LNB £38. Bought a Freesat recorder £199.
    All channels in chronological order.
can record 4 channels at once.
    Harmony works.
    Netflix button & iplayer button.
My surround sound works off HDMI
Thank goodness I didnt buy an Aura, nearly did.
Can now run 4 other tvs off LNB ( using my old freesat boxes)& ditch aerial, mast booster & distribution booster & antenuator, Sell 4000T etc.
Who needs all these problems & sorting it out for Humax.
Bye Bye Humax. Bye Bye Freeview.
And the birds wont be boing boinging on my aerial

Bought an aura which arrived yesterday to replace the EETV box which for me when it launched was the model of how all digiboxes should work; four tuners, permanent recording of the last 24 hours of programmes across one or more muxes, good mix of streaming options and a decent app to allow programming, live viewing in real time and playback of recordings.

Sadly over the years it has become less well supported and is going end of life early next year so it was time to move on.

The aura looks to be the only box doing anything different at the moment, so I've dived straight in with the 2TB model.

First impressions are good, though there are too many views of more or less the same thing so I can see family members getting confused, but it's fine for me. I'm a Google / Android fanboy anyway so that side of thing appeals.

Any news of when the app will launch into the play store? A bit frustrating that it's not there at launch, though I've successful triggered a recording by the old Humax website interface.

Very mild disappointment that the built in Chromecast doesn't have the Google photos slideshow availability at the moment in Ambient mode, but I understand that was removed across all CC built in devices a few months back due to bugs so I can't expect this device to be any better.

Annoying that NowTV app installs but doesn't work but Chromecast is fine for that anyway. Looking forward to playing some more, feels like a good start for me so far.

Netflix on a mobile device can be cast to a chromecast. The Aura has a built in chromecast.

I do not believe this works well if at all from what I’ve read on different forums.

It worked fine for me but just tried again and the aura chromecast is not found. I have a 4K Chromecast which is found.

It does however work for Disney+ and NOW TV

But not Netflix which I think is the main point. Unless someone can confirm Netflix seamlessly via chromecast.

Disney+ shouldn't need Chromecast though as the native app on the Aura works just fine for that?

For a long time Netflix didn't even support Chromecast did they, so they're clearly fussy about which platforms they "allow" their service to be used, especially if it conflicts with other streming providers. I doubt it's Humax's fault in that sense if Netflix aren't playing ball - though from a marketing perspective "Netflix" is turning into the shorthand for "Streaming service" aka "Hoover" so I'd have thought getting Netflix onboard would be a strategic goal for them.
