We are in a bad area for broadband . Only get about 4.5 M but never had a problem downloading netflix movies. Nor bbc iplayer on a sky box. Also if the programme runs for 45 minutes without a problem cant see its the network. At times it packs up after a few minutes. Surprised you had a problem with the program at that time of the day. Can understand some contention ssues in the evening when the world and his dog is watching and the episode is recent but not in the morning.
You say the freesat server. Does the information not come staight from the broadcasters server to the user? Why would it go via free sat or is it about cascading data streams out in a tree to avoid contention.
Must admit not that familiar with how iplayer programs are distributed . Believe that over the ip network individual packets of data are transmitted over different servers anyway. Not sure though how thousands of users are able to randomly watch the start of a program at the same time. Presumably there must be some simultaneous sharing of a specific programme data stream and for high volume demand programs there will be some contention and buffering.

Checked download broadband speed at 10:00 measured 45.45 Mbps
Started A Pace To Call Home Series Episode 10 Measured download speed at 38.83 Mbps (so plenty of spare capacity)
Stopped with Something Went Wrong about 10 mins in. Measured broadband speed now 56.28Mbps.
Resumed playback at 10:38 out of 46:04, meaesured speed at 56.37 Mbps.
Leaving it playing back will post again if it stops again.
Almost certainly a Freesat server issue, iplayer works fine on other kit.
Perhaps Barry would check if he can replicate and have a chat with his Freesat contacts.Trying now with Episode 10 of series 3 - currently @ 18 mins without issue.....will update if and when...
Edit: Using a HB 1000S but that should not make a difference. Thanks Barry - it stopped again 24:19 in. After resume played to end without issue.
Whole programme has streamed without issue.
Will try another episode of same series.

Via HB1000S (Sky Broadband connected by ethernet) watched two programmes last night on Demand5. Rookie Blue and Cruising with Jane McDonald and there was not one hitch. Watched ITV Player mid week and again perfect, considering I have had issues with ITV Player previously. Hope I have not spoke too soon. For your kind attention.

Episode 6 stopped at 33:21. Playing back episode 6 on Fire TV box. Same network switch as HDR1000S.

Well something went wrong on Fire TV as well. Just switched back to see if episode was still playing after 30 minutes. Had the message on screen for a few seconds and play back restarted at the beginning all by itself. Streaming ep 06 using chromecast (cast using tablet to Chromecast).

Still no problem for me....
Episodes 7 and 8, and again without issue.Baffled, episode 6 so far is working fine using Chromecast (45:59), only difference is Chromecast is WiFi connected. It's a bit boring saw the whole series when it was transmiited
Unfortunately iplayer on my android devices doesn't seem to cast to the HDR1000S like Youtube does.
EDIT Ep06 finished fine on Chromecast.
