An add-on question concerning Winter Hill. I can't seem to receive Freeview channel 31, Paramount tv. I've retuned a few times but get no signal messages. Also, the plus 1 channel on freeview ninety-odd gives me some shopping channel. Any ideas?

What channel number are you using when retuning? I think it should be 58 at the moment but there several changes at Winter Hill in 4 days time (12th August).

Yes, 58 sounds ok for now, but looks like 29 from 12 August. It should be on Mux COM4 (SDN).

Thanks for the replies. I was tuning channel 29 as per the table on uk free tv's website. I'll try 58 but last time I tuned it was automatic full smart tune and it didn't pick it up. I'm only 5 miles from the transmitter so shouldn't have signal problems.

I'll retune on the 12th and see what happens.

You cannot trust UK Free TV's site. It has been known to have multiple errors for a long time.

I have concerns about the smart tune; I suggest if you still have problems after a smart tune then try tuning again with the smart option off.

I'm only 5 miles from the transmitter so shouldn't have signal problems.

You won't have problems due to the signal being too low but you could have problems due to the signal strength being too high. What is the signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax?

So do I. I'd say it is anything but smart. The intention is good - to keep your recording schedule if possible. Unfortunately, the last time I used it I found my channels were mangled. It was so smart most of my channels switched to another, weaker, transmitter.

Update after retune (not smart!) on 12th August. Paramount network is now available on Freeview 31, not that I'll be watching it much. I was surprised to see BBC4 and Quest disappear from the HD lists. Something to do with no signal now on Winter Hill channel 55; any idea if and when it will be broadcast again?

That is pretty much an ideal signal strength.
