To revert to the previous version would involve producing a firmware version with a later version number for this to happen automatically.

The next release will effectively be a partial reversion to the previous version to make it work! Normal practice would be to make the user aware of a software update and give the user a choice of when to update similar to TV software updates.

I'm not sure how large Humax are in the UK and how much autonomy they have. Certainly the South Korean company is very large worldwide. More discussion by Humax with the user community could be hugely to their advantage and limit the guessing game about what's going to happen next.

Thanks for the response, I have called Humax and they say it is driver issues following the upgrade as they cannot guarantee that any other than Humax branded dongles will work, they continue to support those but unable to test and support any other brands.

I have the impression that it is freesat who will decide on the freetime firmware.

    I have the reboots too.

I was hoping to disable the automatic software updates by manually configuring the settings, but clearly those settings don't affect the automatic process. Worth a try. My update was listed as 20 MAY 2015

the problem is not with Humax but with Freesat. Freest are dragging the once good Humax name through the mud with their updates that have not been tested properly. You have to wonder what testing team Freesat have.

Freesat have replied to my email for advice asking for patience and a seven day wait before contacting them again on the matter. They're doing all they can liaising with Humax.

I have been on live chat with Freesat and this was their response:

We have had some issues regarding the Humax update. Humax and Freesat are aware of the issue and they are working together to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We are asking customers to bare with us during this process, if the problem still continues after 7 days, please get in touch and we should have some more information.

So it looks like 7 days without a box.

I just fitted a Humax WiFi dongle and it's connected up so I'm working again. No shutdowns and just a couple of failed recordings which cut off after a few minutes.
