This does of course rely on it being a download update and not over the air.

I think Humax only ever made Aura updates available via over the air.
Whereas previous models had both methods available.

Is software still deployed OTA? I thought that stopped a while ago when the software files got very large.

I am pretty sure it is not deployed OTA. I think the only way to get Aura updates is via the Internet.

It was circa February/March 2018 that the standard OTA facility for all manufacturers ceased. I remember because the "sound" fix for the HDR-2000T/1800T just missed the boat, and in the final days of OTA being available using the old service Humax continued to broadcast the previous version, instead of switching to the version that many wanted.

If a manufacturer wanted to continue with OTA updates that would have had to arrange for a replacement for the cancelled infrastructure which had been available to support DTT OTA.

Aura software was only available direct to the box via ethernet or WiFi (OTA), the software was never made available as a separate download which you could then put on a USB and update the Aura.

Check the Humax support pages for software you will see the Aura does not have a downloadable version but earlier models like the 5000T do.

My understanding of Over The Air (OTA), which dates back a long time before set top boxes were connected to the internet, is that the software is transmitted from your terrestrial transmitter to your aerial and hence your set top box. I seem to remember there was a hidden dedicated channel for this (BBC???) or something similar.

I agree with Biggles, OTA for me has always stood for "Over The Air" i.e. without wires.
However like others here I thought OTA's had generally been discontinued in favour of internet downloads.

Not a problem for me as I'm still running two FOX-T2 HDR's plus one FOXSAT HDR, and very reliable they are too.

Yeah you are right over the air did mean to receive via transmitter to device.
As that method is redundant I still see over the air used in other forums for other devices to mean downloading via WiFi or other method from the 'cloud'.

Anyway we are all going off topic as this thread is about software/ firmware fixes for the Aura

Yes there is a lot of misinformation and 'proof by repetition' on the internet, but please, back to Martin's topic.

Have I missed something about a forthcoming update or is this just wishful thinking?
