Clearly Humax/Freesat wanted the Netflix capability out before Xmas, whatever the cost. Another reason why the update facility should be at the users discretion.

I thought I'd cracked it there: replaced the USB stick and powered up the box. Almost immediately, UPDATE000 appeared in the display and, as instructed, I released the KEY_DOWN button.

However, the display reads E015 now and the Software Update information on the TV warns me this is a Storage Error.

Furthermore, the Software Version, System ID and Loader Version are all 'Unknown' and there is an instruction at the foot of the screen to 'Press the STANDBY button to restart the system'.

When I do, the Freesat and Humax logos appear briefly, then disappear to be replaced by the freetime logo and then the system seems to start as usual.

Within seconds, the error banner drops down at the top of the screen warning that 'HDCP is not valid. AV bl8cked'.

With little more than 48 hours remaining until Christmas Day, I am becoming more unpopular with my wife and three teenage kids by the minute.

    Download the update again.

Reformat the pendrive, and try again as you are almost there.

I would suspect you have a corrupted update file. If you right click in Windows and choose properties, how big is the file ?

    The file size is 49,247KB.

Hang on a minute: when I downloaded the file, the was NOTHING on the USB stick. Now there's a flipping Recycle folder, empty, but it wasn't there before. The time beside it corresponds to the time I was trying the update. How did that happen?

I will reformat the pen and download the file again.

That happens when you plug the usb stick into the box and it's not fully in sby. You should have seen the USB stick light up when you plugged it in.

Thanks. I thought that the Humax instruction read 'Plug in and switch on at the mains'.

How can the box be on standby if it's not plugged in?

Also, when I re-read your earlier post:
"he box may appear to be in sby when it is not. If when you plug the usb stick in the access LED lights it's not in sby",
I'm a bit confused. Should I see the LED on the pen light, or not?

In your last response above at 1918,

It takes at least 30 seconds for the box to discharge all the stored energy in the internal power supply capacitors.

In addition the box will re-start on restoring the power to reset the clock, this could interfere with the update.

You would have to wait for the first short boot and the box to return to sby.

If you follow my post above (it works every time for me).

    (contd)

I'm not sure if I SHOULD be seeing the pen drive light, or not?
