For the audio issue try Settings - Picture & Sound - Digital Audio Out - Stereo. Note after a reset you will have to reset this back to stereo.

Big mistake. Unless you are planning to pay thru the nose for SKY-Q then you're taking a step backwards

With the greatest of respect, I've currently got subtitles with no sound or picture and I've spent the whole weekend trying to resolve this. Not sure how much I can go backwards from here!?!

What can I say. I've done this several times before and my experience has been that if you follow the instructions it's all done in 5 mins. As Graham says, if you don't understand then ask.

I've deleted recycle bin removed the power supply and replaced it while holding the down arrow key for a full 5 minutes at no stage does the word update appear on the box or the tv. The box starts with a picture but no sound and the picture cuts out after a couple of minutes to leave just subtitles.
Yes i have a usb stick which I've downloaded the update onto, I had to copy it from the Dropbox as I couldn't see an option to choose where to download to.
I appear to be giving the impression of being intentionally difficult and thick, I'm certainly not the former and I hope not the latter. I do however feel that, having forked out for a wifi stick, an easier method for updating software could be found. This has been very frustrating and I'm now spending the evening reading SPOTY. Frankly in this day and age that isn't a sentence I ever thought I'd type.

    One step at a time.
If you put the stick in a PC browse the files what are the full filenames on the stick ?
Before you do this make sure that Windows is set to not hide known file extensions (the characters after the dot in the file name).
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-7

I've checked my pen drive and the update is the only file on it. When I restart the box with the KEY_DOWN button pressed, the display simply confirms that the receiver is scrolling downwards through the channels.
At no time does the word UPDATE appear on the display.

What is the fullname of the file on the memory stick including the characters after the dot (.) ?

The name must be exact, including case.
The unit must also be in FULL standby, i.e. no recording in progress or due within 15 mins. A unit when placed in standby can take up to 5 mins (depending on model) to fully power down.

I noticed that my HDR1000S was just as picky as my old Foxsat HDR at not being compatible with every USB stick. The first stick I tried to update the HDR1000S did absolutely nothing when pressing the down arrow button. I changed to a known stick that worked previously with the Foxsat and hey presto the update completed without issue. My advice, try another USB stick.

Wow, I'd given up on this issue as no one had replied to my original post for over a month. 97 posts and counting!
I did make reference to the fact that I was running the test software and that there could therefore be a problem relating to that. It's a pity Humax didn't resolve this issue before the software was rolled out to everyone else. What's the point in testing software if the feedback regarding issues is then ignored?

Anyhow, my question relates to loading the new software which contains the fix. First of all, thanks to Graham for working with his contact within Humax to find a resolution to this, it's very much appreciated.
Can you confirm whether I can just update the software the usual way through the software update section of the box (as I did to install the test software) rather than this unplug, power on whilst holding the channel button down palaver? Surely using the menu option is the safest way to avoid any errors? Please advise and thanks in advance.

To clarify I don't have a contact at Humax. Barry did, unfortunately he no longer works at Humax. Barry has a contact at Freesat.

The new update came to you via a broadcast update over the internet.

The fix is a temporary arrangement for those who have issues with certain TV's and the way they implement HDCP handshake. Others have reported aspect ratio issues with external files - which I haven't been able to reproduce.

Basically it's a way of going back to the previous software without the ongoing update replacing it overnight (which gets you back to square one).

To use this you have to update your box using a single file on a usb stick. If you use the menu it will only find the software version you already have.

To get this you need to download a file, this is normally a compressed archive in .zip format containing the update file xxxxxx.hdf and usually a .txt file with information on how to use the .hdf to update your box.

Extracting files from a .zip archive varies according to which OS and version you have on your PC. Later versions of Windows have built in support for zip archives. Earlier versions needed third part software. If you need a zip extractor this version is free

    http://www.7-zip.org/

The file you have on the USB stick must be named exactly as

    hdr1000s_upgrade.hdf

Some Humax archives have version update number embedded in the file name, if the file you extract isn't named as above you must rename it as above.

A few USB sticks are said not to work (can't say I ever found one).

    Basic advice

I always reformat a usb drive using quick format (right click on the drive in Windows Explorer - choose quick format and make sure FAT32 is the file system option)

Copy the file to the USB stick.

You must make sure the box is in full sby before inserting the usb stick into the front port. The box may appear to be in sby when it is not. If when you plug the usb stick in the access LED lights it's not in sby. If you try and update from this state the box will not find the update file on the stick and simply boot up as normal. (That's why the down arrow has it's normal function).

To make sure the box is in sby, check the Most Recent recordings for currently active recordings (Red R), check the Planned recordings for a recording due in say the next 35 mins (You don't want the box waking up automatically).

Put the box in sby and leave it for 15 mins.

Now insert the stick, if there is no sign of it being accessed you are in business

Just follow the upgrade instructions and good luck.

Thanks for taking the time out to reply Graham. Software's on a usb and I've taken on board your comments regarding the reason you have to use this method to update the software. I'll sort it when I get home tonight.

To clarify, the original issue I had was owing to the beta version I received direct from Humax/Freesat (I get confused who is who) that I was asked to trial, as I had previously been involved in the beta trial of the recently launched Freesat app. As I said, I did highlight this HDCP issue well before it was officially rolled out. If anything, when the software was rolled out OTA, I was hoping that the issue would have been resolved by Humax, although history dictates that this clearly wasn't the case.

All the best and thanks once again for all of the support received on this site.
