HDR1000 Repeatedly Going Into Standby

    The standard suggestion and one that a lot of us have tried (including myself) is to factory reset your box. It's worked for some people and not for others. Factory resetting does not change the firmware revision.

    Hi all,
    As I said in my opening post, I've tried the factory reset a couple of times but it made no difference. Last night it happened to me at least twice again. I was out on both occasions and two recordings were cut short.

    The 1010S and others are blatantly faulty. Mine is brand new. All the geeks that were blurting on about no interaction with the box causing a restart/shutdown as some form of NORMAL activity are totally wrong! It is simply a faulty design and I will get my money back next week. Those who believe that life is supposed to be like that, well - carry on just fine.
    They have imagined that my box was turning off as a result of me being away from it and it had got the blues, or similar.
    The product is not fit for purpose and it shouldn't be up to customers to complain but up to Humax to urgently sort their problems out. Correct - THEIR - problem. For this reason I'm out and won't be investing!

    Better hurry. Currys aren't known for handing out refunds when not obliged

    It's a moot question whether a box would have to be treated as faulty under these circumstances. On the one hand, it wasn't faulty when purchased, which is the usual test. On the other hand, it's faulty now. On the third hand, the manufacturer acknowledges the fault and proposes to correct it. Currys may be reluctant to refund under the circs.

    Even John Lewis weren't happy about taking back a Humax box I returned to them under similar circumstances a couple of years back. They argued, not unreasonably, that a fix was planned and I should wait for it. I sweet talked them into a refund only by suggesting a swap for a much higher-priced Panasonic box - which turned out to be out of stock so they gave me a refund so that I could order it online. Which I did.

    Ok, I've had my box for a few years and received the firmware update last week too. I noticed on Friday night it was rebooting so I did a factory reset and I did a full reformat too. It's been okay until today when it has started rebooting itself again.
    My unit is well out of warranty and now it has developed a fault after this firmware update was applied. I hope HUMAX are going to be working on a fix ASAP.

    We’re aware of some issues on Humax Freetime recorders with some boxes rebooting unnecessarily.

    Humax and Freesat are looking into this to get it resolved as soon as possible.

    Mine is not due to the power save. I've already disabled that as I got fed up with getting a message every night and having to say "ok" for it to stay on. Mine has turned off randomly after about 30 min as well as a couple of hours or more. I also got mine from Currys and am debating whether to take it back or not.

    I have only just bought my box (last Friday) I foolishly carried out the update, is there any way to revert back to the previous firmware? If so how do I do this? Many Thanks in Advance

    Updates take place automatically over the air, so yours would have done so too eventually. If you revert back to a previous version it will simply update to the latest one again. There's no way of stopping it the software from updating itself. It would be good if Humax built in an on/off option to auto-update, then issues like this could be managed more effectively by us long suffering users.

    This has been repeatedly requested by users for 3 years now as, in many users experience, every update is accompanied by problems. Certainly this has been my experience. I suspect the decision on this request for an on/off feature is in Freesat's hands and they have simply ignored it.
    I do wonder if Humax appreciate exactly the damage the Freesat ownership of the s/w is doing to the Humax reputation and future business. I've had every kind of technology from the first VHS recorders to the latest smart TV and phones and the 1000S is the only item that has not allowed me choice over updates. Lesson... I'm very hesitant about buying Humax again.
