I've now had pretty much the same response

"Thank you for contacting BBC iPlayer support.

I understand you have contacted us because when you watch the live stream of the World Cup on iPlayer, at some point it will jump to another channel, or it may jump back two hours. Hopefully, I can help with this.

We have spoken to the iPlayer television team who have confirmed that this device doesn't have live restart functionality enabled. We have disabled this feature on the device as it was failing to restart.

This is a known issue with this Humax device. We have raised it to them, but unfortunately we don't have an ETA on when this will be investigated on their side.

I hope this has helped, thanks again for contacting us."

I wasn't trying to restart, I was trying to watch 'live'. This has not been disabled otherwise I would not have been able to press a button marked 'watch live'

I have submitted a follow up question to BBC:

Thank you for your further response. I, along with others, am very puzzled as to what on Earth something called "Restart" has to do with watching Live TV. We are not trying to restart anything.

"Live" and "Watch from the start" are/were both parts of the "Green" button function of iPlayer and the green button hasn't been properly supported for a couple of years now on the 4000t/5000t. Access to the Live player from directly inside the iPlayer app/home screen no doubt relies on part of the same instruction set.
You are banging your heads against a brick wall.

You are probably right, but it would be good to get a clearer (or truthful, perhaps?) answer out of the BBC.

    You won't.
When problems first became apparent with Green button I also had similar issues on my LG EC930V television.
This model was listed on the iPlayer website as fully compatible 2014 onwards. My TV engineers menu reported that the build date was late 2014. LG themselves emailed me and confirmed that was correct based on the serial number. IPlayer settings for some reason reported that the TV was a 2013 model and the BBC absolutely refused to acknowledge that my TV was compatible. Eventually they just removed the EC930V from the compatibility list and stopped replying to my emails.
By all means badger them but don't hold your breath, the 4000t/5000t are all but defunct now.

No result yet, but Humax now seem to be taking this issue seriously after the BBC said I should talk to them.
