I'm confused, if the internal hardware on the FVP5000t and FVP4000t is the same then isn't the former just a software update for the latter ? Or are there internal hardware changes ?

I was thinking that. This surely is a 4000T in new Sunday clothes. Why couldn't the 4000T receive the same software update. Call my cynical but this sounds like another way to generate 'new sales'.

I agree, I have the newer version of the 4000T -dual led and the exact same remote control with the dedicated "Netflix" button and the same colour. Other than some "tweeks" and the 5GHz wifi it is essentially the same model. One feature I've always wanted is the ability to set a "series reminder". There is daily progs that I would like to change automatically- instead I have to manually go over them adding "remind" over 5 days to fill in the full week. It's D-pad left select day, D-pad right then down to the bottom select "remind" and do that 5 times on the same page. The pop-up mini menu at the bottom of the screen in the 5000T is the same menu on my Humax Freesat HB-1000S. It's my Fav Freesat model along with my Manhattan Plaza HDR-S with twin tuner.
I honestly wish there was a substantial jump in specs.. ????

The tech specs on Humxdirect gives no hint of any specs that are different.

Well, my box seems to be switching itself on. It's difficult to keep track of because when it is switched off and recording and on, the light is identical to when it is switched off and recording.

Only way to tell is select the right HDMI input on your TV/AV receiver and see if you get a picture and sound.

We already know that the 5000T has a motherboard identical to the 4000T.

Barru posted a photograph of the internals and a sharp eyed member noticed the motherboard is labelled FVP-4000T. Admitted Barry has a pre-production 5000T but I wouldn't expect production models to be any different.

There's another post that confirms both the 4000T and 5000T have dual band WiFi.

As Repassac observes perhaps Humax want to ensure that there are no major issues with new software.

Thanks Graham, but I'm not understanding your comment. I am finding that I'm switching the box off, selecting a different HDMI input and then finding subsequently that the box has switched itself on. The handset is put somewhere where it can't be touched.

I take it the box has displayed the blue led after recording has finished despite being in sby when recording starts.

You observed correctly there is no way to tell from the purple led if the box is recording in sby or is fully booted.

However if you select the box HDMI input on the TV or AV receiver you can tell. because if it's recording in sby you see and hear nothing. If fully booted you see the last viewed channel audio and video.

One possibility is the box is booted by another remote, possibly another Humax remote set to use a different code set.

Can you help to test a pet theory.

Try the power on/off timer in this post.

Thanks Graham, I have many Hummy's and they are (mostly) set to dofferent RC channels. The 5000t is switching itself on and off when no remote is being used. I wondered whether they might be cross chatting and have purposefully moved them all off the sofa!

I'll keep my eye on it for a day or so.

Does your note imply that others have reported this ...... I haven't read all 200 posts!

Yes seen a post that says a 5000T has booted around 10 mins or so after a recording completed and the box went into sby.

I have observed my 5000T booting when using a Harmony remote controlling totally different kit, but seems now for some reason now not to be affected.

Can you try the power on/off timer as I posted.

Thanks, I will, but I'm unclear why I'm doing it ie what I'm looking for. Is the suggestion that this might clear it?
