    Application version 1.00_25_201029_0a7a47a
Update date Oct 29,2020 11:06:43 am
Does not seemed to have changed.

Did you have a note of what is was before ?
It's entirely possible it has changed.
I have posted this in another thread. Member Brian had a brilliant idea.
Although not announced a new update resets your preferences to defaults.
One of the defaults easily visible is how bright the front led is.
Default is 60%. Change it in settings to 20%. also ideal if your box is say under the TV.
A new software update resets it back to 60%. If you have a new software update it will revert to the much brighter 60%.
Now check what application version and date you have

I have checked the update date, it is still the same as posted.
When I received it the application version was 1.00_14_2009...........
And update date was late September.
I think the current version was loaded on the 9/10th can be sure though.
Saying that I had already changed the LED brightness on the 7th, can't recall any change in brightness since.

Not an update then. No idea why you had issues.

For anyone wanting to control their Humax Aura with a Harmony remote... Good news. Logitech have now added the box to their list of supported devices. At least for the basic functions, as there is currently no “Amazon Prime” or “Top Picks’ buttons.

I note the various comments about the poor upscaling capabilities of the Aura and am asking what the consensus of opinion is on this subject.

I have a Sony 4k UHD tv which is pretty good at upscaling. Most of my viewing is in HD with a small amount of 4k streaming. So would I be better off setting the resolution of the Aura to 1080p? I then assume I would have to change the resolution to 2160p when viewing 4k?

    Comments would be appreciated.

I would be interested to know if any one else has experienced recordings starting but then not having an end time I had one yesterday that recorded for 16 hours before I spotted it and the only way to stop it was to unplug and plug in again, this has happened twice to me so far on 2 recordings both on CBSreality?

The aura has two resolution settings auto and full. Sadly the manual does not really tell you what the difference is. I have a LG c9 55 TV. All my kit is connected to a 4K capable AVR which can also upscale.

I am using the setting at auto. You would have to experiment with your specific TV,

When a good quality HD source like SCD or a studio shot game like the chase switching between HDR-1000s and the the Aura the Freesat picture the Freesat one looks sharper.

I can try and take photos but the lossy jpeg format and the size limit to upload means that it's hard to tell unless you have a 4K monitor. Or can display them on your 4K TV.

I can upload a couple in original camera resolution I will record the Chase on both today and photograph tomorrow.

I will PM you the links to the full res versions.

Done some testing. Switched off my AVR scaling HD to 4K. Freesat source is now delivering 1080p to my TV and the scaling is doing a good job. Much the same as using the 4K scaling in my Denon AVR.

Whatever setting the Aura video is set to it always outputs 2160p and it looks soft.

Conclusion is that with current software you cannot let the TV scale a 1080p source.

Thanks to Barry I have found the resolution settings. There is however still an issue.

    There is no native settings.

    Eg choosing 720P will upscale SD 576i and de-interlace to 1280 X 720) - 720p TV will scale 720p to 2160p. Double scaling.

If I use the TV tuner and choose BBC1-SD TV does all the work going from 576i to 2160p

Thank you for the info. This whole resolution business is a bit of a confusing mess. My current setup is a Foxsat HDR > Marantz NR1506 > Sony KD-43EX8005. I've always felt that HD from the Foxsat is a bit soft in comparison to the Sony's native HD Freeview. So I was hoping that the Aura would potentially be an improvement. But if it upscales everything without being able to disable the upscaler, then it rather looks like Humax have spoilt the ship for an 'ay-puth' of tar.

I realise that everyone is too busy playing with the apps to watch any TV channels, but does anyone else have a problem with Channel 5 HD. The sound is coming and going and the picture freezing or going blank (black screen). The signal is 100% for strength and quality. I have tried on two TVs (Sony and Samsung) and two HDMI cables.

Channel 5 HD was fine from Wednesday to Friday, but today the problem has returned and it only happens with the Aura. Just in case the signal strength was too high, I tried an indoor aerial but the problem was still present.

Since Humax support seems to be very poor (no reply from an email after a week), I am returning my Humax Aura. I may buy one in the future especially if the Now TV app starts working and Netflix becomes available or I may get the new Google Chromecast.
