If you have a 4K Tv it will always show a 4K picture. It has to do this because every pixel on the the screen has to have data. No TV provides this information, there is no need to do so.
What you need is a way to see what signal is being input by HDMI. Whatever it is it will get scaled to 2160P.
Obviously the poorer the video quality being sent to the TV the worse the scaled image will look.
In auto the TV tells the Aura it can do 2160p so it sends 2160p whatever the source is.
If set to manual you can choose what the box outputs. eg tuned to bbc1- HD it will have a source of 1080p25 or 10801 50 fields/second depending on the data within the GOP that the decoder is decoding. Freeview-HD allows mixed gops so can constantly switch between progressive and interlaced.
If the aura is set to output 4K50 it will scale either to to 2160p50.
It would be great if the Humax could just switch the output resolution based on the source resolution and allow the TV to upscale. I don't even know if that's possible but the Aura's upscaled image is not as good as the samsung tv I have.
